Is public synonomous with loser or square? favorite bettor?

I'm sure this has been asked....are only stupid people the public?

Do public people make it on to these forums?

IMO, finding this forum has nothing to do with being a winner, a loser, a "square/sharp".....finding this forum means you are smarter than the average bear. People that do extensive research find therx through search engines or other forums.

I would think there is an equal(enough) ratio of public to (private? what is the opposite of public?) on this forum.

help?

98 of the 100 posts that are started in the various forums that reference the public in some way are just blatantly guessing and trying to reach for numbers that arent even there.

those that believe for a second that the numbers put out on a sportsbook.com website are accurate

... happen to be the public themselves and they are destined to lose money.

what is the opposite of public?

(I don't doubt that I'm "public", but if you aren't public, what are you?)

Everyone on this forum is public.

Unless you are affliated with a sportsbook or have inside information you are as public anyone.

Lot's of wannabe sharps on here who say home dogs are so great when in fact they hit at 52.7% clip.

No popular trend hits at a good enough % to make it worth the while.

People like to distance themselves from the public to make them feel better about themselves.

All I can do is give my explanation. In theory a line is supposed to garner 50% action on both sides. When a line is posted on a game and shops write 80% on one side and only 20 on the other, I would consider that a public side. Another way to look at it is, if you go into your local watering hole, and everyone sitting at the bar is sure a certain team can't lose against the spread, it is probably a public side.

So you are either the public or against the public?

Guys spend too much time on what the public numbers are when you should be concerned with where the money is going.

What I mean by that is 90% of the public could be on WV tomorrow but it's very possible a majority of the money is on Rutgers because the Rutgers backers are high rollers. That's why you see the line move the opposite direction sometimes.

Now, you can always find out what the public's on but you'll never be able to get a book to show you where the money is going. When I say money I mean the real totals of dollars coming in and where it's going.

no, not necessarily. in a game where the percentages (realistically) are 80/20 or 90/10, in my mind would qualify as a public play. However, if you were betting on a side that is getting about 60%, it wouldn't necessarily be a public play.

I agree with prodigy also, and have for a long time, that these websites that give the betting percentages are not giving you the facts, or all the facts.

Also think about this.

Anti-Public plays in the NFL have hit at 55% in the last three years.

So out of 100 plays that's 55-45.

Unless you are playing everyone of them you really don't have an edge. If you are picking and choosing who knows how many of the 55 winners you had and how many of the 45 losers you had..

if you use this angle (55% winners!) as a weed out for picking NFL plays, this can be very profitable!

I don't think you guys are hearing me here.

If 70% of the public is on one side and the line moves in the opposite direction by a point or two you must absolutely fade the public. This is especially true for a home dawg getting 7 or less.

It's really unreal how many times these plays hit. Track them and find out.

Yes sir, but remember you have to bet everyone of them and bet the same amount on em too. If you pick or choose or bet more or less on some games then you lose your edge.

I'm not saying to use the 55% winners as your plays....but if your selections are from a 55% chance of winning, this should automatically increase your win % regardless of what you are picking....
