how they beat these horses into the ground day in and day out all over america....I mean the government says "no no you cant bet sports" but horses??....thats ok....sports betting ruins families....but horse betting....go baby go!!!

Having owned horses, my view changed when one of mine had to be put down. Of course it was a freak accident in the barn and not on the track but it pretty much killed any joy I had of racing horses after that.

WW, I said top horses, not all horses. And yes those 4,000 claimers are just that...But they still get taken care of good....It is a tough business, and thats how it should be looked at.

If GW was euthanized in front of everyone you'd be slamming that as well. The bottom line is that the best horses are given cushy retirements while the worst ones are cast aside like junk; in other words, horses are treated exactly like humans.

My first job was working on a thoroughbred racing horse farm. The horses aren't treated terribly, by any means, but the owners couldn't be more detached from them. And not just the ones I worked for; it seemed everyone was that way. I saw four horses shot, and not one time did the owners care about anything past their wallets. Really cold.

For whatever reason, I found standardbred horse owners to be far more compassionate.

It's fun to bet on from time to time. But the "sport of it", that is which horse is the best, wins the triple crown, etc is uninteresting. I'd just assume go to the matinee at Mountaineer than go to the Breeders's Cup. Mountaineer has cheaper beer

the average racehorse runs MAYBE 5 times a year.....average years of racing MAYBE 1.5 soooo MAYBE 7-8 races total in a career.

you remember when ed mcaffery broke his leg??? how bout when jason kendall broke is ankle? joe theisman's leg??? where was the outrage there??? it's sports at a high level of competition. shit happens and bodies give out. its called life
