Torre gone, now A-Rod... what is to become of the evil empire. I have heard that Riverra is not likely to resign with the Yanks also. Could be looking at a seriously different squad in '08. Possada may just be the key to the season next year. If they don't manage to sign him they could fall to mediocre real fast. I'm not a huge Yankee fan, but was a big fan of Joe Torre. After watching the front office slap the best manager in the game in the face i kinda hope they struggle and learn how good they really had it.

Torre leaving is a plus - Girardi is a great hire.

They'll miss ARod's production no doubt and I wish he were coming back but they've won WS with much lesser guys at 3B.

Posada had a great great year in 2007 but a catcher his age will hit the wall fast. Rivera is also on the decline. My guess is they'll both be back on 3 (Posada) and 2 (Rivera) year deals but if either insist on more years the NYY will move on.

The team is changing out of necessity.

It kills me to say it but congrats to RS fans.

What will become of the Yankees?????

They will continue buy the best players and compete for the playoffs every year... MLB should have a World Series for the Red Sox and Yankees each year, and then one for teams with reasonable payrolls....

With those payrolls, anytime the Yankees or Red Sox don't win the World Series it should be considered a failed season.

Do you not think that a big reason (beside the obvious money they spend on players) that they are able to sign so many proven veterans was Torre? Guys that have been around want to play for a manager like Torre, they don't want to play for a disciplinarian like Gerardi. Torre may not have been the best baseball mind in the game but he was the best at feeding big egos to keep everyone in the clubhouse happy. There is already a hole at 3rd with A-Rods departure, and if Rivera and/or Possada leaves those are 3 holes with no answers. Jaba looks like he will be a nice big leaguer, but you can not replace one of the best closers in baseball that easy. New catcher, 3rd baseman and closer makes a new ball club that will quickly lose ground to Boston as the dominant team in the AL (if that hasn't already happened). This could very well be the beginning of a new era in NY. Also Hank Steinbrenner seems like a total duche-bag.
