It's just amazing to think that this guy almost never even played football. He went out for the team in his junior year of high school. He could have just as easily said "screw it" and not gone out. Makes you wonder about all the potential that people have. Probably a ton of people that could have been stars in a sport, but never happened to even try it.

What's the quote?

"Most often, the best talent lies in obscurity."

Sources: Cowboys offer QB Romo 6-year, $69 million extension:aktion033

ESPN

The Dallas Cowboys have offered quarterback Tony Romo a six-year, $69 million contract extension, $31 million which is guaranteed, according to sources.

The deal is expected to be announced at an 11 a.m. EST press conference on Tuesday and was primarily negotiated on Romo's behalf by agents Ken Kramer and Tom Condon.

None of the principals could be reached for comment.

Romo was in the final year of his contract and could have become a free agent at the end of the season. By signing him to a new deal before Nov. 5, the Cowboys will be able to apply some of this money toward their 2007 salary cap.

Romo was all set to attend NCAA Division III UW-Whitewater with his high school buddy and wide receiver. The very last day, Eastern Illinois offered him a scholarship that had opened up. The guy has a mean golf game as well. Good for him.

Did Eastern Illinois used to hoop against Southern Illinois by chance?

I know of at least two aussie internationals who didn't even play for the top team at their high school. Talent blossoms at different times, and for some it's too late for them to find out. Most who would be stars probably are though.
