Hey Rx'ers, I have been laid off from my job and can now collect almost 75% of my usual weekly check through unemployment...I am 26 years old with no family...wife, children etc, and pay pretty cheap rent...400 mnth...I am able to collect for the next 30 weeks. Would you wait it out and just lounge around and look for a better job? Go to Grad School half-time and still collect? Or get my butt out there and get another job asap...its so tempting to do nothing, but at the same time I'm missing out on making more money? What would you do seriously?? Thanks

If you have no real responsibiltys, then why not take some time off if you can?

Thats what you got taxed out the wazoo for right? Nothing to feel guilty about. Take your time finding a job that pays well that you will enjoy.

well if you are asking what I would do, I would probably be lazy and lounge around.

if you are asking what I think you should do, it wouldnt be that. Its never a good habit to be in when you arent doing anything contructive day to day or week to week. Look for a new job, but if you arent finding one then do something industrious on the side to keep your mind occupied. the half time grad school thing is not a bad idea at all.

haha. Yeah I have been on it. I think I got the max at the time 954$ every other week for 26 weeks. I downloaded a lot of MP3's, watched a lot of movies and talked to girls and got drunk with the dummy across the hall. Thats when I learned about posting forums and internet info became a much better capper.

That was a while back like 7-8 years.

your 26 man your not a kid anymore....as you get older its harder and harder to get a job as employers want younger and younger workers they can mold... I would take a few weeks off but take the first job that is decent you come across.

It is much easier to get a job, when you have one. Now you do not have one, so I would not want to stay unemployeed long in this market..Just my opinon

don't be dumb..i think it takes like 5 mths to find a job you want..i would take a couple of weeks off, and then start looking.

and it is a lot harder finding a job when you don't have one...for whatever reasons.

You can not go to school and collect unemployment at the same time.

Seriously if you don't want to go get another job right away...spend at the time Improving yourself.
Take skills courses, Volunteer at a charity, increase your general knowledge on everything, get curious about the world around you.

Someone told me and I believe it "Work twice as hard on yourself than you do at your job"
Take the time to become a more complete person.

Or just smoke pot and eat Cheetos, just no matter what you do always ask yourself "How is this helping me towards my higher purpose?"

Well if he is smoking pot, I guess he is getting 'higher' in some capacity.

Only kidding.

Seriously though I was in the same exact boat 2 years ago accept I was not collecting unemployment. Took me over a year to find a good job. So my suggestion is look for something you really like and if nothing comes up, atleast you got money coming in.
