Anyone else feel that SIA is moving their numbers a little faster nowadays?

They still will post some off numbers against public teams and with higher spreads but as far as with line moves I feel they are alot faster than in years past and the fastest they have ever been.

Not saying they arent still one of the slower ones but nowhere near the standout in this that they use to be (IMO).

Still love the book but just another slow moving book but not the cream of the crop in this anymore. Do some of you agree that are playing there?

still getting a fair ammount of lines from SIA, esspecially from Friday on for foots as would be expected. Betonline is a great book to have imo. I find myself dropping a couple plays off their a week. -105 and lines that are generally better for underdog bettors.

But, in general not getting as many plays at SIA, so yes I agree.

I've looked at BetOnline a couple of times over the last year. I found them to move as quickly as anyone out there, and never opened an account because of it.

Can't say I'm surprised about SIA finally getting quicker. Not like it's rocket science ....

FWIW, here's my top 5 books for playing the leans ---

SportBet
Five Dimes (Reduced lines)
Carib
Greek
BetMania

(I hesitate on the last one - I know they're sponsors, talk nice and all that, but I think they're a crappy book - site is slow, hostile to anyone not a complete square, and the payouts are not the greatest - to say the least).

I have currently:

betonline
betmania
SIA
sportsbook
5dimes

betonline, 5dimes, and betmania are all reduced.

I hardly have bets at sportsbook, totals are the most likely there and they are rare.

I could do much better with book selection, but for the time being these 5 get me a decent spread of lines.

Betonline also sometimes allows you to move on and off 3 with -110, and other times it is -115 and others -120. I seem to make plays with them early on in the week if I play with them, I actually like them alot. good CS too.

I have not really done anything in baskets yet this year, just started last night. so will be interested to see how the lines look in baskets.

CBB has been my best sport when it comes to line shopping and finding value. Good luck.

Thanks ICEMAN... just a week in and am very happy about jumping in.

question though on something you have discussed elsewhere:

When you discuss beating a line, yuo often discuss the closing line. I wonder why this is so?

Players that play based on numbers benefit by getting a number that is off the "true" number, whatever that is determined to be. Thus by beating it by enough of an edge should allow you to make a profit by doing nothing more then scooping up value, throw out the teams and just call 1 team team A.... and so on. I understand that. What I am trying to better understand is whether I should be playing trying to beat the opening or closing line. It is a mathematical fact that 10 years from now beating one or the other will be profitable... there is no denying that. But, which one? Which line is sharper and why? Could both be? Clearly you have seen results over the years that cause you to believe the closing line is the best indicator of a true line. Can you expand any on this?

onto the next question.

I think the answer to the question above is that it does not matter.... but interested to what you have to say. According to you the closing line is sharper, I think. But, does it really matter? The way I see it there is either going to be one side that is incredibly profitable to use as a true line and the other side will not be profitable Or, if the true line lies in the middle of the opening and closing line, by beating either by enough we are gaining enough value to win over time.

You talked alittle about this when discussing scalping, being an overall +ev, thus theorectically both sides are +ev in themselves. Of course one side could be way more +ev and the other not so much on an individual game, but overall +ev. Do you believe the scalpable line on the non-sharp side is profitable at all on its own?

Also, kinda interested in this so doing a really basic tracking of my own on this this year in baskets vs beating the opening/closing spreads. Doing it with actual bets (with just 5 books) and a contest with stale lines. Dont, have much time, but should get an idea over a couple hundred plays.

thanks Ice.

any books with numbers just a tad off the norm lately for you guys? I can't believe how beted had all those nice doggies and now over the past 5 or 6 weeks they are back at the norm. I guess they tried to drive customers to their site earlier in the football season.
