Not to mention the only undefeated team left in the NBA this year. The Celtics improved their record to 4-0 with an easy 106-83 victory over the Atlanta Hawks in Boston Friday night. Best start for Boston since they went 6-0 out of the gate back in 1987.

Of course that team featured a frontline of Larry Bird, Kevin McHale, and Robert Parish so Celtic fans shoudn't get overly excited just yet.

I have to admit though it is nice to see what was once the greatest franchise in NBA history to at least be competitive again.

Starting to wonder how BC ever lost to FSU. Just doesn't fit the template right now.

I never thought they would be this good so soon. I am worried about about 3 studs playing big minutes over the course of a season though. Yes, lets enjoy it though for now. Garnett has been special and is the glue.

Celtics really didnt even play good last night and still won huge.

Posey is hurt though. Last night they looked vunerable for a little bit. Scalabrine just isnt that good.

KG is a monster. Wouldnt be suprised to see him pick up MVP if he stays healthy.

Tonight's game @ NJ is going to be the first REAL test IMO.

Going on the road with no rest against a veteran playoff team.

Boston Globe

Even as Governor Deval Patrick seeks to license three resort casinos in Massachusetts, he hopes to clamp down on the explosion in Internet gambling by making it illegal for state residents to place a bet on line. He has proposed jail terms of up to two years and $25,000 fines for violators

It's really disturbing that he would only want internet gambling banned as a means to make sure people are going to his casinos to gamble instead.

Talk about using political leverage.

I think that the Celtics Will be More then Just Competitive !

The Only Early problem..was to see if these 3...Pierce....Allen & Garnett could Jell Together....
Sometimes Egos get in the way !

Next problem will be to see if they All stay Healthly !! Each of them have had problems in the Past to do this.....Not so much Garnett, but we all know Allens hurting days.....and Pierce....

Just think Pierce Will stay Healthly because he does Not have to " Carry "
the Team on his Shoulders this time...

I know it's Early to say this...But I think the Celtics Will be in the Top 5, 6 or 7 of the NBA....

Which brings us to Tonights Game vs. "MY" NETS.....

As Rob stated...This will be The Test you guys have been waiting for...

This will be a Great game to watch !!! Good Luck Tonight !

The Only Edge I see for the Nets, is that Kidd,Carter & Jefferson have played together for a couple of years.... Other then That....You can Throw All the Stats out the Window !

I don't think it's a test yet. Nets are not playing well at all.

The regular season wins aren't going to be a problem for the Celtics, (I don't think anyone doubts that.) but if you're counting on the big three to take you all the way, that's something else. You'd need a "perfect trip" for that to happen.

Rondo hasn't been that great so far as well as anyone else on that team that's fill in. Eddie House had a good game last night.

Celtics pull away from Nets in 3rd quarter to stay undefeated

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) -- The Boston Celtics won one for Doc Rivers and sent the New Jersey Nets a message in the process.
Hours after attending the funeral of his father in Illinois, Rivers saw the new-look Celtics remain the NBA's only undefeated team and personally show the Nets they are the team to beat in the Atlantic Division with an impressive 112-101 win on Saturday night.

"A long day for me. A tough day for me," said Rivers, clad in a dark suit and tie. "I was going to stay at home and my mom said 'Go to the game.' That's what my dad would want. It's still very emotional. I needed this probably more than anybody. I told them that after the game."

The victory was the fifth straight for Boston, which is off to its best start since winning six in a row to start the 1987-88 season. That was the last time the trio of Larry Bird, Kevin McHale and Robert Parish got to the Eastern Conference finals.

Boston's new big three of Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen put on another impressive performance against the Nets (4-2).
Pierce, who was scoreless in the first quarter, had 13 of his 28 in the third when Boston turned a seven-point halftime lead into a 21-point margin. Allen added 27 points and Garnett had 18 points and 14 rebounds.
Rivers had told the team on Friday that he did not know whether he would return after attending the funeral of Grady Alexander Rivers Sr., in Mayfield, Ill.
However, the coach walked into the locker room about 75 minutes before the game.

"It was a great boost of confidence," Pierce said. "It was a tough situation for him. He could have easily not come. It definitely brought my spirits up when I looked up and I saw him."

Garnett said having Rivers back gave the team a shot of energy.
"It was a great example," Garnett said. "Everybody perked up like little kids when their pops comes through the door. It was a cool moment."

While the Celtics have become a scoring machine with their new lineup, they also showed they could play defense, holding New Jersey without a field goal for more than eight minutes in the decisive third quarter.
"It's one game," said Richard Jefferson, who led the Nets for the sixth straight game with 28 points. "We're not going to play our best ball now. Right now, they are on a roll. They are not going to go undefeated. I will stand by that."

Vince Carter added 17 before leaving late in the third quarter with a sprained right ankle. Jason Kidd added 17 points, 12 assists and six rebounds.

The Nets trailed by 23 points early in the fourth quarter and never got closer than eight points.

Eddie House added 13 points and Celtics rookie Glen Davis also made a major contribution with six points and eight rebounds in 17 minutes when the game was on the line.

New Jersey got off to a fast start, shooting 67 percent from the field in the first quarter.

Boston took the lead for good midway through the second quarter when Pierce converted a three-point play to ignite a 13-5 spurt. House, a former Nets player booed when he entered the game, added a 3-pointer in the run, Davis put in a rebound, Kendrick Perkins scored in the lane and Pierce capped the run nailing a wide-open 3-pointer for a 52-45 lead.
The third quarter was all Boston. Pierce hit a layup and scored seven points in a 13-3 spurt to start the period. New Jersey missed its first nine shots and didn't score a basket until Carter drove the lane for a layup with 3:39 left in the period.

A little more than two minutes later Carter was gone. The eight-time All Star drove the lane for a big slam dunk with 1:23 to play. His left foot came down but his right foot rolled after landing on Pierce's foot. He limped off.

Game notes:
Nets C Nenad Krstic had the misfortune to have a rebound slip out of his hands and go into his own basket. Perkins got credit. ... Garnett got a technical for arguing a call. ... Boston outrebounded New Jersey 49-34. ... Boston F Brian Scalabrine was released from a Massachusetts hospital after being held overnight because of a concussion suffered late in Friday night's game.

These 3 veterans together have a chance to win the whole thing..they need to stay healthy, and learn to share..their ages prove they may never sniff the championship apart, but together they can kik ass..

No question that the Celtics still being unbeaten is a result of their early season schedule. The real proof of the pudding will come on Dec. 26th thru Dec. 30th when they play 4 games in 5 nights on the road against the Kings, Sonics, Jazz and Lakers. They could easily go 1 and 3 (or worse if not healthy) in that kind of scenario.

Their Texas swing doesn't come until mid March.

The Celts play at the Pacers this Tuesday and could lose that game.

Preview:

The Indiana Pacers will have to get around three future Hall of Famers if they expect to end their three-game losing streak.

The Pacers face the undefeated Boston Celtics on Tuesday in Indianapolis. Indiana has beaten Boston three straight times and four of the past five times.

Things will likely be tougher for the Pacers this time because the Celtics feature the Big Three of Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Ray Allen.
The Pacers, who have struggled defensively, face the daunting task of having to find a way to slow down Boston's trio.

Mike Dunleavy will likely be matched up against Allen, Danny Granger on Pierce and Troy Murphy on Garnett. The Celtics have the edge in all three of those areas.

While the Celtics' trio has taken the league by storm, the Pacers are having a hard time putting the ball into the basket. Jermaine O'Neal and Danny Granger, the Pacers' top two scoring options, are shooting a combined 42 percent from the field. O'Neal's woeful shooting (40 percent) is alarming because he plays predominately in the paint.

some of you guys are acting like this is the patriots here...of course they are gonna lose games a lot of them...but the bottom line is this team is good and will win 50-60 if they stay healthy...and will be a force in the eastern conference....

Very possible with the key phrase "stay healthy". Celts fans need to remember Rome was not built in a day and neither are NBA champs. Enjoy the team's new prestige around the league but don't be shocked if there are more than just a few low points in what is a grueling regular season schedule and an even worse playoff season.

Have fun with the team while it lasts but IMHO there is no way they will win it all this year, only because the East is so weak can Celtic fans intertain thoughts of getting to the finals (don't tell that to the Cavs or Pistons faithful).

The Celtics are the first team I was ever a fan of.

What's going on right now. Boy, it puts a big smile on my face.

Fat Tony, is right on with his comments in post #11 I think. But if anything we should have a very memorable season.
