UNIVERSITY OF GUELPH (No. 5) (+4.5) +100 over University of W. Ontario (No. 6) (5 UNITS) Pinnacle
This is the 100th Yates Cup (Ontario University Championship). As a University of Guelph Alumni I will, of course, be going for the Gryphons but I will also be laying a bet on them. There is a big difference and I can assure you that this is not a homer bet. As a Guelph grad I understand this rivalry very well. These 2 schools HATE each other. Western were a dominant school over the last couple of decades but whenever these two teams met you couldn't tell who was the higher ranked. Many special results have come about over the years, including Guelph winning the 1984 Yates Cup at Western. I was at that game and it was fantastic! This time the game will be played at Guelph and it should be another great game. Both teams come into this Championship Final as a bit of a surprise. Guelph knocked off McMaster U and highly touted Laurier while Western upset No. 1 ranked Ottawa. Guelph's advantage will not only be the home field but, more importantly, at Quarterback. Guelph's QB, Justin Dunk, is a stud. He is a great passer and even better at running the ball. Dunk is the best scrambling QB in the Canadian University game and will use his abilities to keep the UWO defense off balance. Guelph beat Western in the Regulasr Season by a score of 31-17 at Guelph. The only reason I can see that Western is favoured on the road today is that they were able to beat Ottawa last week but that is a mistake IMO. Giving Guelph points at home is a gift which I will gladly accept.
