Boxing is barely a blip on the radar these days and when it is it sadly fails to deliver a la Mayweather- Delahoya. Sadly, the great fights fall far under the radar and it become more and more a latin sport exclusively as middle class America gravitates to UFC.

yep, that was a good one kermit, thats how boxing used to be I BELIEVE. I dont know because I was like 3 or 4 years old, but I feel like I totally missed out on the great sport of boxing. For those that lived it, lets hear some of your memories or even better yet, find some clips so we can all enjoy them

boxing is a true american sport and unfortunately most of the recent "marquee matchups" have been yawners, however the cotto-mosley fight this weekend is what the sport needs. it was a great fight between two classy individuals. i def recommend watching it if you havent :103631605

...also did anyone catch the undercard match between casamayor-santa cruz? i wish i wouldve known that tim donaghy was one of the judges :think2:

I used to love when Hagler fought. They gave that fight to Ray Leonard. The joke about boxing now is the refs. Sometimes they score a fight and I'm wondering if we watched the same fight. I think they bet on the fights myself.

Boxing is still great. And it's the white working class that's turning to UFC - the middle class is too busy playing golf.

Agree that the boxing crowd is mostly latino and black, as most elite fighters are from the same backgrounds. As is the case with baseball, there's a shortage of domestic talent for some reason.

Also a shortage of heavyweight talent, which is what the public and media cares about. And then there's the huge mess with the alphabet soup organizations, no clear champions in each division, etc.

The institution sucks balls, much like the NHL. The sport itself is as fantastic as it ever was.

That fight Pryor was drugged in the lasr round to come out like an animal, just listen to the footage about the bottle between rounds.

AAron Pryor is one of the greatest fighters in history. He never lost (he did many many years later after he came back from drug addiction but never when he fought ealier) and was unreal. He threw non stop punches, in great shape, you could not hurt him or discourage him and he was angry at the world and used that in the ring, Teddy atlas said it best on Pryor: "Maybe he did use something (drugs) in the ring at some point but he did not need it." It is a shame we did not see more of Pryor. His destruction of Alexis Arguello was the stuff legends were made of.

Good stuff. Boxing at its best aesthetically blows UFC away. Unfortunately promoters, ranking organizations, pay per view, corrupt judges, etc have damaged the sport severely.

God Bless you Texasfan, this might be the only thing we agree on! We are in a small minority with that but I swear we are in the right! I have this on vhs tape and I watched a dozen times conservatively and there is little doubt that Hagler was better man that night. Fans responded to Leonard's pit-a-pat flash and it affected the announcers, and overall perception of fight. Hagler landed a ton of body shots and Leonards punches never deterred Hagler who pressed throughout. Last thing on this, why was Ray in hospital overnight while Marvin and his brother Robbie were out drinking beers in Vegas that same night? I think that says it all. And then there is that stuff about Ray telling Marvin that he won immediately after bell rang...

I would nt give you a nickel for boxing now but it still is not as low as UCF bullshit. A couple of times I observed hardcore UFC fans watching fight and trust me when I tell you that they are the lowest form of human being.
