FuK Him.....I say Make Joba Chamberlain the Closer !!

Lock him up for say 5- 10 years...He Young and Very Good and can always change it around down the line if need to.

Mo's #'s are going down and yes he has been Lights out most of the time.....But 4 Year Deal ???? I say No Way !

There is a reason why Mariano Rivera has not accepted the Yankees' offer of a three-year, $45-million contract.

Rivera, according to major-league sources, wants a fourth guaranteed year.

The Yankees remain the overwhelming favorite to retain Rivera. No other club is expected to even approach their proposal, much less top it.
But Rivera, who turns 38 on Nov. 29, has instructed his agents to shop him, in part because he was angered by Hank Steinbrenner referring to his age in recent comments about the Yankees' offer, a source says.
Rivera has specifically mentioned following Joe Torre to the Dodgers, and his agents also are contacting other clubs about his availability. Rivera, sources say, believes he deserves the same length of contract as Yankees catcher Jorge Posada, who is on the verge of re-signing for $52.4 million over four years, and Mets closer Billy Wagner, who received $43 million over four years after the 2005 season.

Posada and Wagner are both 36, nearly two years younger than Rivera — and Wagner was 34 when he signed with the Mets as a free agent.
Rivera also is certain to note that third baseman Alex Rodriguez would be 42 at the end of his proposed 10-year contract with the Yankees — the same age that Rivera would be at the conclusion of a four-year deal. Rivera's ERA rose to 3.15 last season after four straight years below 2.00, but he went 30-for-34 in save opportunities, regained his dominance in September and worked 4 2/3 scoreless innings against the Indians in the postseason

I don't think they Overpaid him by Much, and he is 2 years Younger then Mo..
I know that Posada's Defense is Avg. But his Offense and #'s are there...

It's pretty remarkable how much the player's numbers go up in their contract year....except for A. Jones last year..

You want to make Joba a closer? No fucking way.

Every scout in MLB says he has the potential to be one of the more dominant starters in all of baseball.
Throwing him in the pen would be a disgusting waste of talent. You want him starting every 5th day. Closers don't win games, although a strong one is needed, the role is one of the most overated in all of sports.

Edit: And I'd give Rivera the 4th year. He might have statistically have had his worst year last year - he was still better than most. He has a strong work ethic, and at worst you can move him to setup if he starts choking 2 years into the deal.

He's not worth a 4th Year by Any Means !! Plus he's getting 4 Mil more then the next closer with this Deal...

Sure I want Joba as a Starter !! But if they are going to be Blackmailed into a 4th Year..Fuk Him !

Again, Nobody is giving him This kind of Money that the Yankees are offering.......

He's been a great pitcher, but you can't give him a 4th year. He has been human the last 2 yrs and is no longer unhittable. They have other issues and can't keep locking up these older players for 4 yrs at a clip
