IUPUI head coach Ron Hunter does not hesitate when calling this his best team in 14 years. After developing several talented newcomers last year, the Jaguars are clear favorites to win the Summit Conference championship as star guard George Hill returns after only playing five games a year ago. Hill is a legitimate NBA prospect and takes this team to a whole new level while four others have averaged double figures in first two games. The Jaguars were competitive from start to finish last week at #12 Marquette. They led by as many as 5 in the second half, despite losing Hill to foul trouble for a critical stretch, and only lost by 8. IUPUI plays 9 variations of defense, but primarily a tricky looking matchup zone that should give Portland State fits. The Vikings will not like seeing a zone this early in the season as they graduated by far their top two three point shooters from a year ago and also unexpectedly lost a two year starting point guard in the offseason. Four key contributors in all must be replaced and two of their most touted newcomers are not eligible until the second semester. Holdover starting center Morrison and reserve transfer Moore have both been slowed by injuries in preseason camp. The Big Sky was very down last year and The Summit (formerly known as Mid-Con) actually ranked two notches higher per Sagarin ratings. Expect the Jaguars to advance in this tournament. Give the points.
