You'd have to pick a year for each player on that one. Say, Steve Young 1993 vs. Joe Montana 1988, or something like that. Either selection, there's no such thing as a wrong answer.

Of course I couldn't stand the 49ers when they were playing, so I couldn't stand either one of them for being so good.

Steve Young ended his career with a better overall passer rating, completion %, Yards per attempt, 2700 more rushing yds, 23 more rushing TDs and did all this while playing 23 less games and not playing a full season til he was past his prime @ 30 years old.

Young also played on great 49ers teams, ones that Montana help build.

Give me Montana every time.
He's the first QB I'd consider having if my team was down 7 pts, at the 2 minute warning, ball on my own 10, to tie the game.

is this a joke

This has got to be joke Joe Montana was one of the greatest
of all time
It makes me think of espn and their rating of 25 of the greatest players
of all time, and JIMMY BROWN is rated at number # 19 that is another laugh, after watching and, at one time coaching football for sixty years.
Jimmy Brown is the greatest player ever.

GOOD LUCK TO ALL THE CAPPERS, AND A HAPPY THANKSGINIG
TO YOU AND ALL YOUR FAMILIES..................................

John Elway was better than Steve Young at his own style! We didn' see another Montana-type guy until now (And I won't mention the POS's name!)

Me too, he was a rare species. Too bad he didn't get consistent playing time til he was in his 30's and past his prime.

Who knows what coulda been.

That is like asking who is the better QB. Payton or Eli? Payton has the records but Eli has won more Superbowls.

My vote would be for Montana as well. Imo, Deion Sanders was the MVP of the 1994 49ers team. He was so good in lockdown coverage that the 9ers could just put "prime time" on the best WR and forget about that half of the field.
