IRVING, Texas -- Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is still urging NFL fans to pull the plug on cable, especially those who want to see next week's NFC showdown of 10-1 teams on NFL Network.

The Cowboys and Green Bay Packers both won Thanksgiving Day, a week before they play for the outright NFC lead.

The NFL Network has been in a dispute with large cable providers who don't carry the network on a basic tier. The network is available in about 35 million of the nation's more than 111 million homes with televisions.

"I am frustrated that we've got literally several million fans that won't get to see that game because Time Warner won't be carrying it," Jones said in the locker room after the Cowboys' 34-3 victory over the New York Jets. "I'm hot about that. I hope those fans will go to AT&T satellite or go over to a competing cable company."

Time Warner is the primary cable provider in the Dallas area.

Jones is the outspoken chairman of the league's NFL Network committee. His comments came just three days after Comcast, the nation's largest cable company, sent a cease-and-desist letter to the NFL Network demanding the channel's representatives stop encouraging fans to leave the cable provider.

"I know I have been given a cease and desist to quit saying that, but that is a fact," Jones said. "It's frustrating to think millions of Cowboys and Packers fans won't be able to see it."

Fans in each local market will be able to see the game. NFL rules require that games televised on cable must be made available to an over-the-air provider in the home market cities.

That's why I dropped my cable company this Summer and picked up the Dish. Was pissed about Comcast taking away the NFL Network and raising their price every year even while they were taking away channels. I bet there will be a lot of people this week getting the Dish or Directv to watch this great game!

i have no clue why any football fan doesnt have direct tv...

It's impossible in many parts of the US. And no, I'm not talking about monetarily impossible (though it *is* freaking expensive). I'm talking about physically infeasible to put a satellite where you live.

The only idiots here are the fans who have not changed to directv.

There will be no cable in 10 years. I guarantee that...

Not everyone has a place to put a dish. Also, people with bad credit are usually asked to put down a deposit.

People who are poor or live in apartment buildings will keep cable alive.

by law apartment owners and homeowner's associations have to allow you to put a dish up if you want. You still need the "clear view to the southern sky", but as long as you have that, you can put a dish in any apartment building or condo. So, the only reason you "can't" get directv is if you don't have that clear view or can't afford it (and, from what I understand, it is cheaper than cable for comparable packages).

www.sopcast.com, I watched England/Croatia Wednesday on my computer at work and, other than being in Chinese, it was f*ing great.

The NFL is trying to push its channel, what better way to do it than showing the second best regular season game in 10-15 years on that channel?

The only idiots here are people who dont realize that not everybody can use Direct TV.
(Possible Reasons; No view of SE, or SW sky for signal, some condo, apartments, or Housing associations dont allow it., Instalation isnt feasible, too expensive, renter's not allowed...) I think this covers a decent amount of 'idiots'.

It's all about priorities.

First off by federal law, renters are allowed to use the dish. It does not matter what it says in your lease.

Finances - well it's no more expensive than cable... And if you can't afford a dish, you should not be gambling.

I won't live anywhere without a southern view... Guess it's priorities.

I've always wondered why directv does not launch a northern satellite... You physicists... is there some reason why they cant?
