I was on the shitter reading the new Rolling Stone the other day when I saw thier interview with Ronny.Im sure some of this is just repeating the same old shit but even if thats the case his lack of knowledge regarding Iraq/Afg is frightening to say the least, but even more scary given the post hes looking to fill.

So here is the interview I lifted from their site.

Hes got no chance-hes no Republican.

What do you make of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and current U.S. posturing toward Iran?

He's a loudmouth, and he hurts their cause. But we help his cause when we gang up against him. When we pass sanctions against him, the dissidents in Iran who would like to get rid of him rally around him for nationalistic reasons.

We get hysterical over a guy who doesn't have a single weapon, and nobody's proven that he's ever violated the arms-nonproliferation treaty. Matter of fact, the International Atomic Energy Agency is going to have an agreement with him by the end of the year. That's why you have all of this warmongering going on: It is to try to find an excuse to start bombing him before they prove that he doesn't have a chance of having a weapon. That's exactly what we did with Iraq. I'm scared to death they're getting ready to do that with Iran.

The Bush administration says Iran is supporting the Iraqi insurgency. How much can we trust that assessment?

About as much as what we heard about Iraq before the war. What was true about that? Very, very little, if anything. They're capable of telling us anything if they want to go to war. And that's what they want.
Whether the Iranians have helped the insurgency or not is almost irrelevant from my viewpoint. Why wouldn't they have an interest? It's like saying that if the Russians were in Mexico, we wouldn't have an interest in who wins that war. We'd have every right. They're the next-door neighbor.

But the administration alleges that the Iranians aren't just backing the Shia against the Sunni — they are complicit in the slaughter of our soldiers.

I haven't seen any proof of that. They're assuming that it's true, but that's part of the war hysteria that's going on.

Giuliani seems to be the warmonger in chief — leading the drumbeat for war with Iran. What would a Giuliani presidency mean for our national security?

If someone is unhappy with the Bush policy, they would find Giuliani's would be even more extreme. But since Giuliani is so anxious to go to war, somebody ought to ask him why he didn't go when he was called up instead of ducking it like some of those other chicken hawks — he took, what, four deferrals?

The kids today are expected to go because Giuliani likes this stuff. But whether it's Cheney or Giuliani, these guys think it's quite proper to go to war when they feel like it. But they never had to expose themselves.

In a recent debate, you blasted Mike Huckabee for supporting the war, saying we're only staying in Iraq "to save face." But wouldn't leaving Iraq be a propaganda victory for bin Laden?

Everything is much worse if we stay. Right now they're very content to bleed us in Iraq. Bleed us financially and by killing Americans. We lose lives, we spend money we don't have, it furthers our financial crisis. The longer we're there, the stronger Al Qaeda gets. Our being there is the greatest incentive *conceivable to help Osama bin Laden. The evidence is very clear. There's more Al Qaeda now than before. Which means we're in greater danger of being hit by terrorists than before.

Besides, who are the people telling us there'll be problems if we leave? The same ones who said it would be a *cakewalk. What kind of credibility do they have?

You talk about limiting the size of government. How much of the Pentagon's budget would you ax?

We are now spending close to a trillion dollars a year, when you add up every single thing we do overseas. You could start off easily cutting $100 billion. Bring the troops home, you could save $200 billion the next year. And maybe $250 billion the year after that.

Quit paying to blow up bridges in Iraq and then paying to rebuild them. Bring that money home. Our bridges are falling down. Our levees are falling down. The only way we can get enough money is by stopping this insane foreign policy of running this empire that we can't afford. Policing the world? It's impossible.

I say, just quit it. Let's come home. Bring the troops home. Quit spending the money. Get rid of selective service. Don't have the draft. And no more wars like this. It's a real tragedy and a real black mark on our record.

----------------------------------
There is very little in the way of accuracy here.Any Ron Paul supporter who says otherwise can feel free to point out whre hes right. He is once again saying only what he wants his base to hear even if its blatantly wrong.

Look at the simplicity of his assessments of whats going on in Iraq, blowing up bridges to rebuild them? Is he insane?

No proof of Iran meddling in Iraq,Iran not actively involved in the killing of US soldiers there.Im not even sure you Paul supporters can bite on this one.

And an agreement with the IAEA? lol...how many agreements has Mahmoud already pissed on....this is who Paul wants us to put the worlds safety in,the UNs hands again? And sanctions wont even be considered under a Paul presidency never mind military action. Its clear that Ron Paul has no familiarity with the leadership in Iran and that, once again makes for some very scary stuff.

All the money in the world cant get this guy the GOP nom and a third party run will only prolong his eventual disappearence.Rumor has it hes toast in Texas (Texas Toast..lol) as well so maybe Alex Jones will hook him up.

Yes, the man is certifiably insane and pandering to a niche market: those who never outgrew their coloring books, Etch-A-Sketches and action figure dolls.

Essentially, his response is Bush lied about everything.

He used hysteria a lot, said nothing of substance.

Totally ignores all the news coming out of Iraq, that's all a big lie too I suppose.

Accused Rudy of "liking this stuff" (wars), and Ron Paul is supposed to be the "honest intellect", RIGHT.

But the bestest of everything he said / suggested:Everything in Iraq is going the way Al-Q planned, they're winning, they're bleeding us dry.

The more I learn about OB Ron, the more senile he looks.

S. Iraq's Shiites want Iran to get out

BY AMIT R. PALEY AND SUDARSAN RAGHAVAN
Washington Post

More than 300,000 Shiite Muslims from southern Iraq have signed a petition condemning Iran for fomenting violence in Iraq, according to a group of sheiks leading the campaign.

"The Iranians, in fact, have taken over all of south Iraq," said a senior tribal leader from the south who spoke on condition of anonymity because he feared for his life. "Their influence is everywhere."

The unusually organized Iraqi rebuke illustrates the divisions that Iran has provoked among Iraq's majority Shiites. The prime minister and major political blocs are closely tied to Iran, but the petition organizers said many citizens are fiercely opposed to Iranian meddling in Iraqi affairs.

Several sheiks leading the campaign traveled to the capital from the southern province of Diwaniyah and showed the Washington Post and other news organizations an electronic file filled with images of signatures they said endorsed the petition. Their effort is being supported by the People's Mujaheddin Organization of Iran, or Mujaheddin-e Khalq, an Iranian opposition group that is listed by the U.S. government as a terrorist organization but that nonetheless enjoys U.S. military protection in Iraq.

The petition, which the organizers said was signed by 600 sheiks, calls on the United Nations to send a delegation to investigate what it termed crimes committed by Iran and its proxies in southern Iraq.

"The most painful stab in the back of the Shiites in Iraq by the Iranian regime has been its shameful abuse of Shiite religion to achieve its ominous end," the sheiks said. "The only solution and hopeful prospect for Iraq, and in particular the southern provinces, is the eviction of the Iranian regime from our homeland."

The campaign echoes repeated pronouncements by U.S. officials that Iran has been instigating violence in Iraq and allowing weapons to flow across the border, though U.S. officials have said in recent weeks that Iran appeared to be honoring a pledge to clamp down on weapons smuggling.

Meanwhile, scattered violence across Iraq on Wednesday left at least 15 people dead, an Interior Ministry official said.

The U.S. military announced that an American soldier and an Iraqi interpreter were killed Tuesday by a roadside bomb. The military said the attack, which wounded three other soldiers, was caused by an explosively formed penetrator, a weapon that U.S. officials believe is manufactured in Iran.

Iran gives IAEA nuclear weapon blueprints

Last Updated: 7:00am GMT 14/11/2007

<!--NO VIEW-->

<TABLE cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0 width="100%" border=0><TBODY><TR><TD>Iran has handed United Nations inspectors a set of blueprints showing how to mould uranium metal into the shape of nuclear warheads.

Diplomats at the International Atomic Energy Agency said the apparent concession was intended to head off the threat of new UN sanctions.

The existence of the blueprints was revealed two years ago. But Teheran has promised to answer a series of queries about its nuclear programme, which it claims is intended only to generate energy for civilian purposes.

Handing over the blueprints, which can only be for military use, represents the first step towards meeting the demands of the UN nuclear agency.

Governors of the IAEA meet in Vienna next week to discuss the latest report on Iran by the agency's chief Mohamed ElBaradei.

The move by Teheran will be seen as an attempt to head off deeper UN sanctions. But it is unlikely to deter Britain and the United States from pressing for tough action from the UN Security Council.

Diplomats said that the Iranians had failed to meet other key IAEA requests for clarification about their nuclear programme.

The agency had been seeking possession of the blueprints since 2005, when its inspectors stumbled upon them among a batch of other documents during its examination of suspect nuclear activities.

While the inspectors had been allowed to examine them in the country, Teheran had up to now refused to let the IAEA have a copy for closer perusal.

Diplomats said the drawings were handed over in Vienna last week by Mohammad Saeedi, the deputy director of Iran's Atomic Energy Organisation.

Iran maintains it was given the papers without asking for them during its black market purchases of nuclear equipment decades ago that now serve as the backbone of its programme to enrich uranium - a process that can generate power or create the fissile core of nuclear warheads.

-----------------------------
Why the deception? Why the evasive tactics? Why the blatant stonewalling? Why the dismissal of internation support? .....if its all for 'peaceful' purposes?

Iran is dangling carrots in front of the IAEA,it should be the other way around.

You folks cannot be this stupid.

QUESTIONER: “Congressman, if you were not running, right now, for office, is there a current candidate that you would identify with most and who would you vote for yourself?”

RON PAUL: "There’s been some that hinted that they might run... that’s Chuck Hagel... I don’t know a lot about his other programs, but because foreign policy to me is so important. On the Democratic side, it just happens that Dennis Kucinich is a good friend of mine."

Ron Paul on strong national defense: Clinton didn't cut deep enough...

Ron Paul Survival Report

May 15, 1993

Volume IX Number 5

Page 6

Defense Cuts?

In spite of all the rhetoric minimal cuts will be made in the military budget. The "savings" are gained by cutting back on proposed increases. For 1994 Clinton has asked for $278 billion. That's only $2 billion less than Bush had requested. Over the next five years, Clinton has proposed an additional $12 billion more than Bush had asked fior. And that doesn't mean that it will happen. Essentially Clinton's proposals will maintain military spending at Cold War levels over the next five years, to exceed $1.3 trillion. In the past it was thought that liberals were less interventionist overseas because they represented the anti-war movement in the 1960s. However, most of this anti-war movement was motivated by not wanting to fight communism, not principled anti-interventionism. Today the liberals and the Democrats are much more interventionist than the Republicans and the conservatives. This policy of intenventionism overseas, with the absence of a Soviet menace, encourages the building of a coalition between the Old Right and libertarians in presenting the constitutional case for "minding our own business."

"Constitutional case"...

This guy is worse than Roe v. Wade supporters. :ohno:

yeah, what is ron paul thinking not trusting intelligence coming out of iraq. he should have learned after how many people this administration saved by finding those horrible WMDs. he needs to get line and follow blindly.

Could it be that cuts in "intelligence" helped to diminish the accuracy of "intelligence"?

Ron Paul was wrong, and he would have cut it even more.

Iranian Special Groups linked to Baghdad pet market bombing

</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>
The Friday, November 24 bombing of Al Ghazi pet market in Baghdad was the largest attack in the capital in months. At least 15 Iraqis were killed and 56 wounded in the blast. US and Iraqi security forces now believe the attack was conducted by the Iranian -backed Special Groups, and was designed to simulate an al Qaeda in Iraq attack in order to increase Shia dependency on militias.

The "ball-bearing laden bomb" was hidden inside bird cage smuggled inside the pet market by members of the Special Groups, the US learned after capturing four members of the terror group.

"Based on subsequent confessions, forensics and other intelligence, the bombing was the work of an Iranian-backed special group cell operating here in Baghdad," said Rear Admiral Gregory Smith, the Deputy Spokesman for Multinational Corps Iraq in a press briefing on November 25. "The group’s purpose was to make it appear al-Qaeda in Iraq was responsible for the attack. Despite killing innocent Shi’a and Sunni, the special groups aim was to demonstrate to Baghadis the need for militia groups to continue providing for their security."

Smith was clear the evidence points directly back to the Special Groups, which are the creation of Iran's Qods Force, the clandestine foreign operations service of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps. "Special groups have been historically backed by the Iranians, the Qods forces we’ve described before," said Smith. "The training, the equipping that goes into the ability to conduct the kind of operation that was conducted yesterday, the making of the particular kind of bomb, the forensics that we know from that particular bomb and that explosion, has the fingerprints of a special group. Therefore, again, having been facilitated through Iranian connections."

The Special Groups cells, which "have been trained, equipped, financed, and sometimes even led by Iranian-backed groups," are still active inside Iraq, said Smith. He also noted that it is sill unclear if Iran has ceased operations inside Iraq. "To the extent that they are conducting, and supporting, training, equipping, and funding operations today in Iraq, we need to wait and see statistically if that’s the case," said Smith.

Major General Rick Lynch, the commander of Multinational Division Central where the Special Groups are active, recently said he believes Iran is still operating in his area of operations. "We're really in a wait-and-see mode to see whether or not there's specific progress. It's something we watch all the time," Lynch told The Associated Press.

"I'm still finding Iranian rockets and explosively formed penetrators that are traceable back to Iran," Lynch said. "But what I can't tell you is are these munitions that have recently been brought into Iraq or have they been here for a while. [The Qods force and the Special Groups are] still operating in our battlespace. But I can't say whether or not this is an increased problem or a flatline problem or a decreasing problem."

Multinational Forces Iraq once again warned Muqtada al Sadr and the Mahdi Army to honor the ceasefire Sadr put in place after the Mahdi Army attacked police in Karbala during a festival, sparking outrage against Sadr's militia. "Again, this bombing demonstrates there remain individuals who continue to ignore Muqtada al-Sadr’s pledge of a ceasefire," said Smith. "Iraq and coalition forces will continue to capture or kill those who choose to dishonor Muqtada al-Sadr by committing these acts of indiscriminate violence against innocent Iraqis."

In numerous press releases, Multinational Forces Iraq has repeatedly warned Sadr and the Mahdi Army to halt attacks on the Iraqi government and Iraqi and Coalition forces. Iraqi and US forces are conducting a major operation against the Mahdi Army in the southern city of Diwaniyah.

Background on Iranian influence in Iraq and the targeting of the Special Groups

Coalition forces began targeting the Iranian networks and captured senior members of Iran's Qods Force in Baghdad in December 2006 and Irbil in January 2007. Iranian surrogates -- the Qazali and Sheibani networks, which are now collectively referred to as the Special Groups -- stepped up their attacks on Iraqi and Coalition forces in January 2007.

The Qazali network conducted sophisticated operations against US forces at the Karbala Joint Provincial Coordination Center, kidnapping and killing five US soldiers during the aborted operation. Coalition and Iraqi Security Forces have been heavily targeting these "Special Groups" and "Secret Cells" since General David Petraeus' briefing on the Qazali and Sheibani networks on April 26.

In March 2007, Coalition forces captured Qais Qazali, his brother Laith Qazali, and several other members of the Qazali network. Qazali was a spokesperson and senior aide to Muqtada al Sadr. The Qazali network was behind the Karbala Provincial Joint Command Center attack, which resulted in the kidnapping and murder of five US soldiers. Multinational Forces Iraq has stated Iran is behind the Karbala raid, and satellite imagery discovered a mock-up of the Karbala complex at a camp inside Iran.

In July, US forces captured Azhar al Dulaimi, the tactical commander behind the Karbala PJCC attack. In early September 2007, Multinational Forces Iraq announced the captured of “a highly-sought individual suspected of being an Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps-Qods Force” operative in Karbala.

One of the most significant captures occurred in the spring of 2007, when the US captured Ali Mussa Daqduq. Daqduq is a senior Hezbollah operative who was tasked by Iran to organize the Special Groups and "rogue" Mahdi Army cells along the lines of Lebanese Hezbollah. Documents seized during Daqduq's capture, along with statements made during interrogations and information given by other captured Special Groups operatives confirmed Iran's significant role in the Shia terrorist insurgency.

On September 20, Multinational Forces Iraq captured Mahmud Farhadi, an Iranian Qods Force officer in charge of the Zafr Command. Farhadi commanded one of three units subordinate to the Ramazan Corps of the Qods Force, which commands the operations in Iraq.

On October 7, General David Petraeus said the Iranian ambassador to Iraq is a Qods Force intelligence agent.

<NYT_HEADLINE version="1.0" type=" ">Iran Was Blocked From Buying Nuclear Materials at Least 75 Times, Group Says </NYT_HEADLINE>

<NYT_BYLINE version="1.0" type=" ">By WARREN HOGE

</NYT_BYLINE><NYT_TEXT>UNITED NATIONS, Nov. 15 — Iran has been denied purchases of nuclear-related materials at least 75 times over the past nine years because of suspicions the purchases could have been used for building bombs, according to an international monitoring group.

The denials, most of which have occurred since 2002, have resulted from interventions by members of the 45-nation Nuclear Suppliers Group, an offshoot of the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty.

The suppliers group is charged with monitoring trade to make sure that nuclear technology transferred for peaceful purposes is not directed to military use.

Iran is a signatory to the treaty but not a member of the suppliers group.
Made up of technologically advanced countries, the group keeps its data private and meets largely in secret.

The list of trade denials was made available by a diplomat from a country interested in exposing the extent of Iranian efforts to acquire so-called dual-use items that can be converted to weapons production. He made the list available on agreement that neither he nor his country be identified.

According to the suppliers group’s mission statement, countries act on an individual basis to block trades that violate export controls devised to maintain international cooperation on peaceful uses of nuclear energy. They have no enforcement power beyond notifying companies that they are in violation of the group’s guidelines.

The diplomat said that the 75 denials represented actions by only 7 of the 45 member states. He said this suggested that the real number of denials of sales of dual-use products to Iran was probably much higher.

The list names companies from Australia, Finland, Sweden, the United Arab Emirates and Iran itself that were prevented from carrying out deals because the items being sold were suspected of being militarily useful.

The Iranian end users included the government of Iran and the country’s atomic energy organization and power, engineering, petrochemical and oil-refining and gas companies, aircraft industries, schools, universities, engine manufacturers, mineral research centers, a helicopter support company and a plasma physics center.

As the standoff with Iran over its nuclear program has continued, Western diplomats have contended that Tehran uses front companies to receive technology and convert it to weapons production without being detected.

Among the listed items being offered for sale in the blocked deals were nickel powder, petrochemical plant components, compressors, furnaces, steel flanges and fittings, electron microscopes, radiometric ore-sorting machines, valves and tubing, lasers, a rotary drilling rig, a mass spectrometer and a nitrogen production plant.

Yes that quoting of long posts is quite retarded.

I dont mind the of posting longwinded articles because Ill usually read them eek but lets be realistic here. That is plain RP fury above.

Sad thing about Paul is the more I learn about him the more he becomes a charactature.Originally I had an overall respect for the mans principals but hes shown himself to be just as pandering and crooked as the rest of the people he looks down on from his ivory perch.
