Ok - I'll admit - I am a technology retard. With that out of the way -

I am giving my 7 yr old an IPOD Nano for her b-day tomorrow. I have the sucker plugged into the USB port and it says it's connected and charging.

Do I have to wait til it is fully charged for the set up asssitant screen to come up?

Thanks in advance - damn do I feel old.

You shouldn't have to. It should pop up. Just like when you cell has no charge and you plug it in. About 5-10 min later you should be able to make that call.

Thx Jesse - It's been charging for about 40+ minutes with nothing other than the Connected message on the screen.

Unplug it and plug it back in. Also did the new hardware icon pop up at the right bottom?

No new hardware icon at the right bottom. I unplugged and plugged back in again. Same Connected message on the screen.

I have set up 3 of the 2 gb ones. I don't see why the nano would be any different but it may be. Hopefully you don't have a defected one. Check back with the computer in about an hour when the ipod says charged. Alas I'm on the way to work. Maybe the nano does have to be charged all the way.

You don't download music with the nano. You have to go into the iTunes store and purchase singles for .99 each. They will then be downloaded onto your iTunes and you can click your iPod under "devices" and click Sync and it will add whatever you've purchased onto the iPod. Alternatively, you can download music through a p2p client for free and load those songs into your iTunes folder then sync those onto your iPod.

Crazy -I do understand that. I am trying to download from CD's onto the Nano with no success. Whenever I have the Ipod connected to the USB port, it does not allow me to do anything at all.

yes, exactly when an ipod is connected via USB, you can't physically use the controls on the ipod. that's what itunes is for.

use google.com for questions about features.

lets say you have a music file on the desktop of the computer. drag it into the music section of itunes, it will load.

in the middle, left tab - you will see your ipod. right click and hit sync.

if you want to buy music, create an account on iTunes with the store feature.

download whatever you want, it will go to a purchased folder. you can sync that too.

you don't download from cd directly to nano. unplug the nano. You put in a cd and then import to itunes. then itunes to the nano.
