AUDUBON, Iowa (CNN) — Earlier this week in New Hampshire Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama spoke candidly about his past experimentation with drugs and alcohol in high school, and on Saturday—after a question on medicinal marijuana—Obama was prodded a bit further and asked whether or not he had ever inhaled.

"I did," the senator from Illinois said to light applause. "It's not something I'm proud of. It was a mistake as a young man."

The question was a reference to a line made famous by former President Bill Clinton who, while admitting to trying marijuana, said he did not inhale.
"I never understood that line," Obama continued. "The point was to inhale. That was the point."

On the campaign trail on Saturday, GOP White House hopeful Mitt Romney said Obama's earlier comments set a bad example for young people.
"I agree with the sentiment that nobody's perfect and most of us, if not all of us, in our youthful years have engaged in various indiscretions we wouldn't want to have paraded in the front of a newspaper," the former Massachusetts governor said in New Hampshire. "On the other hand if we're running for president, I think it's important for us not to go into details about the weaknesses and our own failings as young people for the concern that we open kids thinking that it's ok for them."

On the issue of medicinal marijuana, Obama said that if the "best way to relieve pain and suffering is through medicinal marijuana," then it's something he's open to.

He added it would concern him much more if people were allowed to grow their own to use whenever they were simply "feeling really tense" and "needed a joint."

speaking of medical marijuana if you know anybody with breast cancer buy um a dime bag couldn't hurt

Marijuana Compound Shows Promise In Fighting Breast Cancer

ScienceDaily (Nov. 23, 2007) — A compound found in cannabis may prove to be effective at helping stop the spread of breast cancer cells throughout the body.

The study, by scientists at the California Pacific Medical Center Research Institute, is raising hope that CBD, a compound found in Cannabis sativa, could be the first non-toxic agent to show promise in treating metastatic forms of breast cancer.

“Right now we have a limited range of options in treating aggressive forms of cancer,” says Sean D. McAllister, Ph.D., a cancer researcher at CPMCRI and the lead author of the study. “Those treatments, such as chemotherapy, can be effective but they can also be extremely toxic and difficult for patients. This compound offers the hope of a non-toxic therapy that could achieve the same results without any of the painful side effects.”

The researchers used CBD to inhibit the activity of a gene called Id-1, which is believed to be responsible for the aggressive spread of cancer cells throughout the body, away from the original tumor site.

“We know that Id-1 is a key regulator of the spread of breast cancer,” says Pierre-Yves Desprez, Ph.D., a cancer researcher at CPMCRI and the senior author of the study. “We also know that Id-1 has also been found at higher levels in other forms of cancer. So what is exciting about this study is that if CBD can inhibit Id-1 in breast cancer cells, then it may also prove effective at stopping the spread of cancer cells in other forms of the disease, such as colon and brain or prostate cancer.”

However, the researchers point out that while their findings are promising they are not a recommendation for people with breast cancer to smoke marijuana. They say it is highly unlikely that effective concentrations of CBD could be reached by smoking cannabis. And while CBD is not psychoactive it is still considered a Schedule 1 drug.

This study was recently published in the journal Molecular Cancer Therapeutics.

The study was primarily funded by the California Breast Cancer Research Program.

SH: Unless you're one of the three quarters of a million of Americans who were arrested and jailed for simple possession in the past year (over 2000 per day), yeah - not really an issue.

And as long as you're not a state-legal provider in one of the 12 states with legal medical pot laws and you have the DEA kick in your door and steal all the medicine for you and all your patients - yeah, not an issue.

More Americans arrested every 24 hours for pot possession than for all violent crimes combined.

What kind of a responsible 'leader' announces he's used pot in front of an impressionable teenage audience? :think2:

"Hey look, Barman Jr, Obama did drugs as a kid and he turned out great! Let's be like Obama...I'm sure we'll turn out the same!"

Joe, it's called actually telling the truth. I like it. Refreshing.

SH: lol...yeah...Mark poses the imaginary straw man, ""Hey look, Barman Jr, Obama did drugs as a kid and he turned out great! Let's be like Obama...I'm sure we'll turn out the same!"

The more accurate comment, as has happened several times in real life with my 24, 21 and 18 year old offspring would be, "Hey look. Obama, and GW Bush, and Newt G and Fred T and Al Gore and Arnold Schwarzanegger and Michael Bloomberg and (fill in the blank with any one of several million very successful Americans from all walks of life) used drugs at an earlier age and they didn't end up on an unrelenting slide into doom and lifetime destruction!"

Junior Bars: But Dad, why then does the Drug Czar tell us that marijuana is the most dangerous drug in America??

Barman: Because your government officials routinely lie about drugs and the best ways to respond to their production and use.

Holy hyperbole, Batman!

Steve fibs:

"Junior Bars: But Dad, why then does the Drug Czar tell us that marijuana is the most dangerous drug in America??

"Barman: Because your government officials routinely lie about drugs and the best ways to respond to their production and use.
"

Not satisfied with such vagaries and smelling something stinky, the youngest chimes in and takes Daddy to task: But Dad, if government officials routinely lie about drugs, then how come you ended up in rehab and your brain is half fried?

Steve red-faced and flustered stumbles: Uhhhh...well....it's like...ya know...sometimes when...

And all of Steve's children became law and order Republicans and they lived happily ever after.

SH: Because my brain was not "half fried".

That's another lie told by Prohibitionists. "One use of drugs will fry your brain into disablity"

I voluntarily entered a recovery program so I could learn how to think better. And it worked just as advertised.

KidBars, you are the most qualfied people on planet Earth to compare Steve pre-recovery and Steve post-recovery.

JBARS: Yes we are. And like Mom and Grandma and your new wife and all you professional colleagues agree. You are much cooler, smarter and a kinder, more wonderful person because you stopped abusing yourself.

I am but one of literally tens of millions of North Americans who are walking billboards demonstrating that while drug abuse is certainly a problem, it is a problem that can be solved when done right. No one needed to arrest me and threaten me with jail, prison and other heinous sanctions.

JBARS...So do you think you might run for Senate like Barack Obama??

BARMAN: lol....no way man. Not enough in me to work that job. I'll leave it to those who can better handle it.

I bet I could run a MLB team and make a solid consistent profit while putting a playoff team on the field - something GW Bush sure couldn't handle. Maybe we'll see me do that one day.

And all the people who were either recovered drug abusers and/or recovering drug abusers could get discount tickets where they could sit in a non-alcohol section.

The baseball owner thing was just to give "W" some spendin' cash for his upcoming political career.

The average (incompetant) guy can't invest 80,000 in a ML team, wind-up as the head man and walk away with 40,000,000.
