That's funny and all...but makes me hate refs even more. Call the game - call it straight and stay out of the spotlight. No one needs to know a refs name, ever. I know saying this makes me a prick but too many refs out there with big egos already.
"He was giving him the business" goes beck for decades as part of football referee jargon. The most famous call ever was an NFL game in the early 80's between the Jets and Bills involving Mark Gastineau, Marty Lyons and a very young Jim Kelly.
Play video on right - many of you guys that have been around even a little while will remember the classic call of a personal foul made by the worst ref in NFL histroy Ben Dreith on the Jets Marty Lyons #93 (there is another Ben Dreith story that ended up getting him canned as a ref and made a back judge but that is another story). Dreith even got lyons' number wrong blaming an innocent #99 Mark Gastineau for the foul.
This was classic in it's day and ranks up there with Bills Head Coach back in the 60's Lou Saban's (father of Bama's Nick) famous qoute about the refs caught on NFL Films for prosterity "they'are killing me lefty they'are killing me '"..
