Should we have an "Off Topic forum"?

The idea would be to have a forum where "everything off topic" is welcome.

Some threads are obviously popular such as Doug's recent thread about cats and dogs:
http://www.therxforum.com/showthread.php?t=536413

The thread doesn't belong in investment, or any other of our sub forums. By creating an off topic forum we might be able to merge in some of the dead forums at the bottom of the page such as "health" and "arts and entertainment".

The forum may also make those who do not like to see "off topic" threads that are cluttering offshore happy as well.

the "offtopic forum" would actually allow us to eliminate a few forums such as perhaps Health and Fitness, Entertainment, and maybe 1 or 2 others.

So at the end of the day we would have 1 busier forum, rather than 3 or 4 dead forums.

There would also be a place for people to ask "ANY" type of question.

Please post your thoughts in this thread. d1g1t

Some people get furious at these off topic threads, yet they are obviously popular becoz dougs thread about dogs has almost 30 replies.

There would be too many sub forums needed to catch them all, so I think that eliminating some of the sub forums, and creating a "generalized" off topic forum, is a wise move.

Right now, if someone wants to ask a random question, there is no place for them to do that.

We have discussed this a few times in the board room and have had mixed feed back, so I have decided to put the question to the people to see if it would be a popular idea or not.

yeah there are a ton of forums, i havent even read the names of all of them, much less been in each of them. i think a place to 'shoot the shit' is a good idea. granted this is a gambling forum, but at its most basic point, its just a community of people from all over the place. the purpose of the site is to share insight, thoughts, and try to get an edge, but there isnt always a lot going on in the sports world. so...instead of people leaving and going other places to talk or getting ripped for starting up a harmless conversation, there should be a spot to do that. personally, i refresh this forum a lot and then visit the sports forums or rr from time to time. some posts dont belong in the rr but get some complaints in this forum. i enjoy reading what the guys have to say on a number of topics ....certainly at 2am there isnt a ton to talk about in offshore, but there are peolpe up wanting to talk about shit.

longwinded, but those are my thoughts.

i actually like to see an off topic misc. or pop culture type thread once in a while in the main forum. im a bit surprised there is a vote of 5-0 against it for yet another designated select forum.

i like seeing stuff in this forum, but i dont think thats an option. not that it would be better, but i also like to see what everyone is talking about in one main forum.

I voted "No". Figured the Rubber Room and Offshore Forum were "off topic" forums.

RX already has to many forums. I vote to have less...

This is the ideay olddirtyku, I think you are missing part of the suggestion

the "offtopic forum" would actually allow us to eliminate a few forums such as perhaps Health and Fitness, Entertainment, and maybe 1 or 2 others.

SS, you need to put the above information at the top of the thread so others can see it before voting

It is not the name of the forum, its getting the faithful to go there instead of this forum. This forum is held to be the most viewed on a daily basis and where everybody goes for whatever. Won't work imo unless you get down right nasty about what is allowed to stay in this forum.

I think it could work if the new forum is right bellow the offshore forum, and if we move things but leave RE-DIRECTS so everyone knows where everythingis.

yeah i was gonna post something about health/fitness but you could get a much better discussion about it in a main forum than the fitness forum thats set up here. people dont visit it as much, so there wont be as many people getting or giving any advice. i know a lot of people here lift/run and there could be some great discussions if we were able to talk about it from sometimes in a forum thats a bit more active.

this is an excellent point, people are discouraged from posting in certain forums, coz they know they wont get any views or replies.

Then, they are also discouraged to make that same post offshore coz they know they might get bashed for posting in wrong forum.

So at the end of the day, they dont post anywhere. That cant be good, can it?
