I want to get a job dealing cards. I know the pay is not all that, but I have retired early and I am bored as hell. I enjoy being around a casino atmosphere and have good dexterity and math skills. I know the Seminole Indian Casino Hard Rock down here in Hollywood is soon to get blackjack and other games so there may be a demand for new dealers.

Has anyone here ever pursued this? I understand that I should go to some kind of dealer training school. Has anyone ever completed any kind of course? There are a couple here right near my house. Can someone either guide me on what to do and what to expect or talk me out of it?

Been doing this over 15 years, dealing at casino's. You can go to school but there is a waiting list a mile long to deal where I am at.

I can't even get dealers with tons of experience in at my joint. You have to work in house no matter cleaning toilets etc.

Foxwoods dealers have told me they make about $15/hour with tips. These are people I know personally, so I believe them.

I went to school for BJ in Vegas, but went into bartending instead. I think you have to get into the right situation, like dealing poker where you don't pool tips.

WVU...have you ever seen the movie CASINO? Customers treat the dealers rather rudely...I actually dealt a few years in Vegas during the early eighties..it was fun and I enjoyed it...I say go for it..

I am looking at Pinnacle Gaming school in Hollywood
pgidice.com is the address. Prices aren't too bad, but they do not guarantee placement. I am a smart cookie so I feel like if i have the schooling i have a better shot at getting a job than most. I would be willing to work in any parimutual or even a casino boat or cruiseship, but it would be ideal If I could get a job right at the Hard Rock. They have several job openings in finance and cage positions that I would qualify for if I had to get my foot in the door.

If you are a Vet, the Veteran's Administration pays for the schooling...actually made a few extra bucks by taking all the courses at dealer's school in Vegas...

28 months into my dealing career and I am disappointed I didn't do it sooner.
After nine years as a sportswriter, then nine years as restaurant manager, both of which were pretty fun and decent jobs, I wish I was doing this sooner.

Still, had to cut my private bookmaking and stop smoking weed when I got into the casino business, but my health has improved... I think?

Fuck dealing. If you are that bored just play. Sit at the 100nl game and let people give you money. They will if you wait long enough.
