Watching New Mexico State tonight, couldn't help but think Mumme is actually doing a heckuva job. I think they were 0-12 before he took over. But one of those things where how the hell can you convince a kid to come to Las Cruces.

Other one that comes to mind is Army. But I guess, they get a certain kind of kid and pressure is not there.

What jobs would you say are least desirable?

army and navy have to be in there. paul johnson is better than 90% of the coaches in the country, imo, and look at where he is. people say stupid shit like he coaches a fluke offense. give me a fucking break, the guy coaches like that because he has to. you cant recruit at navy and he still beats nd in nd, he finds ways to put up 500 yards rushing in single games, and he does all this without anyone that will play on sundays.

baylor has been really bad for a while now, and doesn't seem to be getting any better.

Academies are the obvious choices, but they do get a special brand of kid. Navy has had some pretty good coaches in the past, George Welsh comes to mind immediately, and AFA was successful under DeBerry.

Honestly a school like Kentucky would be an obvious choice. They are playing second fiddle to basketball every year (Bear Bryant would attest), and they would seem to have a hard time competing with the SEC mega-powers. Somehow a guy like Brooks has been successful, which to be speaks volumes.

New Mexico State doesn't have the pressure of big time winning, but who in God's name would want to go there even over New Mexico, which is in civiliization aka Albuquerque.

I always respected any coach that had even mediocre success at Wyoming. I mean, you are a recruit, you get a call, "yeah I want you to play at Wyoming, in fucking Laramie". Seriously if you have any other options how do you even consider it. Must be one helluva recruiting job.

Baylor has a damn good coach in hoops. They will surprise some people. Given the size of that school it is not hard to figure out why they can't compete with an Oklahoma or Nebraska.

i wouldnt be shocked to see trooper taylor be the guy to eventually turn that team around before he moved to a bigger program. green seems like someone who may know why id mention that name and who he is.

baylor, thats in one one nasty town. if we're going on size alone, s fla should be a power house. granted, they havent been around long and they arent even anywhere near south florida.

Taylor coached running backs at Rocky Top. Don't know if he's still there or what?
UT has had many successes at RB. Of course, many have had personal issues but that is not to denigrate their onfield talent.

S.Fla, Central Florida, Fla. Atlantic. Am I the only one that feels the rise of these programs is at least part of the demise of Bobby Bowden U and the U itself?

Common denominator is all three have outstanding coaches. I can tell you my Irish family wishes right now O'Leary was around instead of Anti-Anorexic Charlie.

trooper got his start at baylor, recruits really well in s fla, he currently coaches wrs at tn, and he is a hot name in coaching. he is considered one of the top 10 recruiters nationally.

the vols are loaded at rb and t poole coming in next year is a stud out of ga. he is only a 3 star guy on rivals right now, but he'll be a high 4 when the final rankings come out. from the tapes ive seen, hes a legit all sec kinda back. he and creer will bring us back to the jamal, bryson, henry kinda days.

losing lamracus coker, former hs aa, was a it of a blow. but, as you mentioned, the vols are always loaded at rb.

am i the only one that thinks its ridiculous to have a team named s florida thats nowhere near the southern part of the state.
:think2:

im not sure about bowden. #1 qb coming in next year and a sic class overall. well, kinda like always. the u has a pretty strong class as of now, but they'll be losing guys here pretty soon im sure. not only did they have a terrible season, but what mom wants her baby to be playing down there now? too much risk around that program.

Duke football should be mentioned in this group. Probably hits the trifecta in terms of being a basketball school (UNC, Kentucky), high academic standards (although UVA produces decent teams under similar constraints), and geographic challenges being a private with tough regional recruiting competition (as well as some unspoken Durham race and class friction which surfaced in the lax situation). But given the circumstances, Duke is a powerful sports school and finished 11th in the Directors Cup NCAA standings which is astonishing when you look at the mega big money athletic programs -Stanford, UCLA, Carolina, all the SEC Big Ten schools- in the list, and the football failure is an anomaly which maybe only 'walk on water' Spurrier can return to restore to past glories.

A great coach can win or at least be compeitive in football or basketball.

Not sure if there is ever a team that has not had at least a couple good seasons

Look at West Virginia. Have been good in basketball and football
