OSU might deserve to be in, but in no way does LSU. If LSU were to win, you have to dub them the worst champs ever. This team has a soft defense and an average offense. Hope to God tOSU beats the paper champ Tigers.

Nobody is going to recognize or care who wins the title this year, other than the fans of the team that does win it. Without a playoff, it's just a patchwork system and it means nothing. Honestly, how can anyone say that any one team is better than any other?

It's the way it's been...forever. So let's just go ahead and say that it never means anything :ohno:

BCS Anarchy Just About Here

West Virginia loses is a world class shocker at home to heavy underdog Pitt.

Missouri down 11 with thirteen minutes to go in the 4th quarter to Oklahoma. IF Mizzou cannot come back, then 1 and 2 will have fallen on the last weekend of the college football regular season.

For those of us who hate the BCS, this would, of course, be absolutely a pleasure. In every respect.

If it comes to pass, then tOSU is in the title game again. Who would meet them there?

The candidates:

Georgia
USC
LSU
Va Tech
Oklahoma

Those are the best of the two loss teams. You would likely eliminate one-loss Kansas (beat no one, he said carefully, noting that tOSU's resume ain't all that great either) and Missouri (two losses to OU) from the discussion.

Of those five, who should go? Who knows? It's all frickin' arbitrary and ad hoc. Decent arguments can be made for each (except for maybe the Hokies).

My best guess? Look for the voters to engineer either USC or LSU to the sweet spot in the polls, and for one of those two to face the Buckeyes. Let's call it USC. Barely.

Maybe, hmmmm, perhaps, just a thought, a playoff might help with this? For the love of all that is holy, college presidents, just give us our fuckin' playoff already.

ETA: Now 35-17 with 10 minutes to go. OU almost cruising now. The barbarians are at the BCS gate.

I really have to disagree as LSU has played a far stronger schedule than OSU. If LSU and Ohio State meet, it will be Ohio State that will be taking another beating just like last year.

They won't be worse then 1984 and BYU.
Yes BYU was by far the worst ever and I never ever even consider them as National Champs. If you recall they beat a 6-5 Michigan team in their bowl game !

It is the same system, and it's always sucked. But this year, throw 8 teams in a hat, play the playoff 10 times, and each team wins it once. Most years, they do get a consensus 1 and 2, even though they rob everyone of a playoff. This year the system has no shot to produce a true champion.

SEC is down this year. What quality wins does LSU really have? Va Tech maybe (who was in an offensive mess early in the year).

LSU is the third best team in the SEC. Fuckin B.S. if they play for the title.

Are you seriously trying to compare Ohio State's opponents to LSU's ?
Ohio State big quality win is ? Michigan / .. who lost to Appalachian St and Oregon at home 39-6 Or was it their wins over Youngstown, Akron, Kent State Washington , Minnesota ? Their non conference schedule was a total embarassment as was the Big 10 as a whole this year.

Maybe, maybe not. They did win the SEC, so you can't really say they aren't the best in the conference.

Isn't it funny how there is no question by anyone that Ohio State is in the Championship game but it is also no question that if they play LSU most cappers say LSU will be favored by close to a touchdown. Ohio State and their schedule is the only reason they are 11-1

LSU had their chance to clinch a NC berth. Senior day home loss against a rival. That's the paper champs right there.

Ohio St doesn't deserve it, but nobody else does either. Under the current ridiculous system, you can't leave them out.

Ohio State has a real defense, LSU does not. Glen Dorsey is the biggest baby in college football, and that offense is average at best. I'll take Ohio State's running game over the paper champs.

Oh I agree but how can you leave OSU out. You just can't.

LSU is not the team that deserves a shot. Has to be Georgia. Or USC even. Oklahoma maybe. LSU my skinny white ass.

Have stated this before but what makes everyone think the Big ten was such a joke this year? Ohio St, Penn St, Wisconsin, Purdue, Mich St all went unbeaten in non conference. Illinois only loss was a close one to Mizzou. Yes Michigan got beat by App St - it happens. It's certainly no worse than USC losing to Stanford. People mix up being exciting with being good. What have you seen on the field this season that leads you to believe that the Big Ten is such a weak conference?

I agree 100 % and I have been saying for over 10 years now that all they need to do is have the top 8 teams play in the 4 big bowls and have 3 games after the New Years games are over. Who needs to do anything with all the 30 some stupid bowls. Cotton, Sugar, Rose and Orange Bowls were the only bowls that mattered 50 years ago and they should still be the only 4 bowls that decide the National Title. Simple 4 winners play off !
