It's going to break my heart if Ellsbury goes. I cant even believe Theo is bending like this.

Didn't the Sox get rid of Ruth?? I think this is a major mistake if the Sox include this kid in any trade....

This is TERRIBLE IMO...Santana would be nice but is NOT a necessity. Ellsbury should be going NOWHERE. The Sox have grown some stars on th farm ie Hanley and Jacoby seems to be one.
Giving up Lester is one thing but Ellsbury won't sit well with me.

exactly.

How do you think us twins fans feel about these proposed trades? Initially, I kind of liked the first deal, but after looking at it closer that was bs. Give us something good.

if your a twins fan and you can get ellsbury...thank your lucky stars...kid is gonna make ya'll forget about tori hunter in a second....

personally if boston puts this kid ina trade i think ill swear them off....guy is an allstar for the next dozen years....i think its a joke...trading this guy who makes peanuts for santana who wants 20+ million a year is a farce....

Minnesota will give up Santana if they get what they are looking for. #1 a young proven center fielder # 2 Top pitching prospects that will hpefully make up for santana in the future. #3 keep them from having to pay Santana the big money when his contracts up. But the sox should not even Consider Ellsbury in this deal.

The Twins can't afford to keep Santana or they wouldn't be trading him. They can keep him this year and let him go to free agency next year and get nothing or they can trade hin during this offseason and get some great young talent they can afford for 4 or 5 years.

If the Sox are throwing Ellsbury into the deal (I'm a bit skeptical) you can bet they are looking for another outfielder or reliever from The Twins in addition to Santana before they make the deal..

I'm sure the twins would throw nick punto into the mix to sweeten the deal.

I am skeptical too. Let them trade him for the seemingly hittable Phil Hughes before you put Ellsbury into the deal. There are always other options, no reason to overpay. Rumor is Eric Bedard is available, for instance

BOSTON -- The battle for Twins ace left-hander Johan Santana is gaining more intrigue by the day. The latest wrinkle is that the Red Sox might now be willing to include top center-field prospect Jacoby Ellsbury in their offer to Minnesota as a response to the Yankees recently putting stud pitching prospect Phil Hughes in their package.

ESPN.com -- citing sources -- reported Sunday that Boston had backed off its refusal to include Ellsbury. But if Ellsbury is to be in the deal, the Red Sox will pull back left-handed starter Jon Lester.

With the Winter Meetings set to begin in Nashville, Tenn., on Monday, the Santana sweepstakes figure to take center stage.

The Twins will have to weigh which offer entices them more: Hughes, center fielder Melky Cabrera and an additional prospect from the Yankees or Boston's offer, which could include Ellsbury, Minor League shortstop Jed Lowrie and a pitching prospect such as Justin Masterson or Michael Bowden.

There are other teams who are also in the mix, including the Angels, Dodgers and Mets, although at this point, the Red Sox and the Yankees -- rivals always -- seem to be the most heavily involved.

The Yankees and Red Sox -- who traditionally have the two highest payrolls in the Major Leagues -- would also seem to be in the best position to sign Santana to a contract extension if a trade can be worked out. Santana, who will be 29 next season, has a no-trade clause and is all but certain to seek a contract extension before agreeing to be moved.

Several reports have stated that Santana could seek as much as $150 million over six years.

Ellsbury rose to prominence for the Red Sox down the stretch in 2007, filling in for the injured Manny Ramirez and hitting .361 in September. Beginning with Game 6 of the American League Championship Series, Ellsbury supplanted Coco Crisp in center field and the Red Sox didn't lose another game. Ellsbury stepped up in the World Series, going 7-for-16.
The Red Sox were trying to trade Crisp instead of Ellsbury, but the Twins repeatedly rebuffed those attempts.

At the end of the day The Twins could always mull over all the offers and decide they are better off keeping Santana.

Ellsbury is overated. He had a pretty good season but he hasn't proved anything to me yet. Could be just another one year wonder. Santana is a great pitcher and has proven that year in and year out. If he comes to the red sox he's winning 20+ games every year he's here. Red Sox will have the best 1-2 combo in decades with Beckett and Santana.

I'd be really disappointed if Ellsbury was traded, however, having 2 of the top 3 pitchers in the league would be nice...
