Tom Petty Named Super Bowl’s Halftime Entertainment
Reuters

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers have just been announced as the halftime entertainment for the 2008 Super Bowl on February 3, in Arizona.

Earlier this year, nearly 140 million Americans saw Prince perform at the number one television event. The Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney and U2 have also earned the coveted spot. The most notorious halftime performance took place at 2004’s Super Bowl where Janet Jackson experienced a wardrobe malfunction in which her breast was exposed.

Fox will televise the National Football League’s annual championship game, which will take place at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona

I like some of his stuff I think he will be okay, But nothing will beat Prince singing Purple Rain in the rain during last years Super Bowl's halftime

You guys remember that weird Alice in Wonderland like video he had a long time ago. I dont think I liked the song a whole lot but I always watched that vid because it was so different and psychedelic looking.

it was "Dont come around here no more" I believe, the citar effect was pretty sweet in that tune. Tom Petty is a great artist in my opinion.

It was a joke, as in, how about someone a little more modern/current/popular today?

Awwww..... hes younger then Mick and Keith, I think like someone stated Janet Jackson ruined it for younger performers since her Boob malfunction MTV no longer has anything to do with SB halftimes.

Who knows maybe Kenny Rogers next year:ohno:
