On a scale of 1 to 10. What do you think the odds are of having a playoff in 5 years?

1 to 10.

What I mean by playoff is at least a final 4.

I say 5.5

The backlash after this season has to have some kind of effect.

Zero...They would rather have 4 or 5 heavily sponsored bowl games and the ad revenue that comes from it.

Tostitos semi final...
Alamo car rental quarterfinals...

Doesn't have the same panache

Better to have 32 winners in the eyes of "higher learning".

You can still have all those bowls and still have a playoff.

Its not like they have to decide between 1 or the other.

They can have both.

They can have there Tostitoes chips and eat them to.

I dont understand what the deal is here.

I know they make big money on the bowls, but why cant they understand that the SUGER BOWL would have better ratings if its in a playoff format?

How many people really want to watch Hawaii and Georgia?

Lets be honest.

But if the winner moved on to the next round everyone would be watching.

The argument is that people travel to and spend money at a bowl game .. they wouldn't travel to 3 rounds of playoffs .. and if they did, many would be so broke, they would stay at the Motel 6.

The Have's want to share nothing with the Have Not's. You'll never see a playoff format because the smaller conferences will want a share of it.

Tv is where the real money is, with that being said, I promise you there would not be empty seats at the Suger bowl in the 1st round of an 8 team format.

They would not be getting anymore than the crumbs that they are getting right now.

If a small conference school is good enough to make the final 8 good for them.

You will only have 1 small conference team at the most in the playoffs.
Just like you have 1 small conference team in the BCS.

Maybe not 5 years, but i'm guessing they'll be some kind of playoff system within 10.

I think they will have a Plus 1 model, which is essentially a four team tournament, after this current contract expires in what 2010?

so my vote is 100% there WILL be a playoff in 5 years, unfortunately it will be the wrong format, unless they seed the top 4 teams, then it's still bad, but at least the top 4 teams are playing in it.
