Nationals acquired outfielder Elijah Dukes from the Rays for LHP Glenn Gibson.

Gibson is a quality prospect, but he's a long way from the majors and he's worth sacrificing to gamble on Dukes' potential. If Dukes is on best behavior in spring training, he should get a chance to battle Wily Mo Pena and Lastings Milledge for playing time, with all three making the team. If not, he can be optioned back to Triple-A, a scenario that would become more likely if Nick Johnson shows up healthy and Dmitri Young needs to refamiliarize himself with left field. More so than Milledge, Pena becomes a riskier pick in fantasy leagues with Dukes around. Dec. 3 - 6:40 pm et

They are trying to get as many upside prospects as possble. There is not another major league team that would give a triple-A toenail for Elijah Dukes. Good in theory, but comes up empty for D-Rays.

D-Rays- who I love, btw.

Just getting a bunch of talent for low prices and seeing what sticks. Young would normally be a good trade possibility at midseason, but his meltdown in Detroit a couple of years age will keep the price low. Cubs have coveted Kearns for some time. The Dukes pickup is a very interesting one for sure.

Price was right. Also have to keep a few familar faces around to sell tickets. Once they get into the new stadium, they should have a solid core of players, then add via FA.

i dont think thats it, they are moving into the new stadium this year, the tickets are sold. the price was certainly not right for someone thats not gonna play. 5 million i think hes gonna make next year?

hard to depend on johnson i suppose. i just think they should have kept a sure spot for him. he hit .320 and was our team leader last year.
