How much is one person allowed to bring across state lines, flying the friendly skies?

Casino winnings from different casinos, would that qualify?

Just thinking out loud.

Any other suggestions?

You can fly with a billion dollars if you want... You can even do so in and out of the country if you declare it.

The feds can seize any cash from any person in the air, on the ground, or simply cause they feel like it if you can not explain a reasonable manner in which you obtained it...

Ie... If you have a legit job that pays you $200k and you take $100k cash out of your bank and fly, no problem.

If you have no job and you get stopped with $100k cash and no bank/paper trail or explaination of where it came from, kiss it good bye.

Thanks for the reply.

Would it be unreasonable that I have 20 K with me when I fly? I do have a job and I will be gambling.

Should not be a problem at all...

First of all, how many times have the feds searched you when you have flown??? It is pretty damn unlikely.

I've taken wads of $100 ($10k-$40k) with me on trips in my laptop bag. I've never been stopped via xray. Occasionally when I get the special pat down treatment, a TSA official will smirk or say something like nice week as I leave Vegas.

Bottom line is you can take as much money as you want with you but if it is enough that the TSA gets suspicious and calls the authorities, you need a reasonable place it came from. There have been plenty of stories of drug dealers getting stopped for traffic violations and having 6 figures seized. They can always get it back if they can prove a legal place it came from... World is a sad place when cops can seize money without you being accused of a crime, but it is the way it is.

If you are heading to casinos and you have paid taxes on the money anyways, just wire it... Any casino will open an account for you and you can pick it up there with markers... I don't mind carrying it through the airport, but it would suck if you ever get robbed... The few times I did it, I actually felt a hell of a lot better in the airport than I did on the sidewalk getting to the airport...

I should add, if you are going to carry extensive cash, it is not a bad idea to carry a copy of the bank withdrawal and/or a W2 or pay stub with you. I've never had money seized, but I would think you'd be in a much better explaining place if the feds asked and you could say I make X/year and I withdrew this from Citibank yesterday. Here's proof..

Finally, if its $20k, just put it in your pocket... $20k is less than 2 inches thick... Metal detectors don't pick up cash... Now if you took $300k, I can't imagine them not noticing...

What bank to do you belong?
Is there a branch in the city you are traveling?
When I go to Vegas I just drive down to Citibank and take out what I need.

When I am done I deposit the money back into my account...

I guess since I fit the terrorist description I rather not have a large sack of money on me as I walk passed TSA...

You can also hook your account up to a casino and just wire money back and forth...

Don't take your eyes off your cash(or anything else valuable for that matter) around those TSA checkpoints. I know that they've been busted at least a couple times out here stealing from people.

Just put the cash in your pockets. I would estimate you can relatively easily fit $100k into each of two pant pockets.

If you are carrying more than $200k cash you should be on a private plane anyways...

Just let the baggage handlers know the money is in your suitcase. Trust me, those guys are honest and will make sure it's there when you land.

metal detectors do indeed pick up cash if there is enough of it.

I called the VP of the branch of Bank of America where I bank. He said the max ATM withdrawal per day is $1000.

I'm looking for a new bank. So I call Wells Fargo and they say the same thing. Imagine that, putting a limit on how much money I can take out of my own account. This is after the checks have cleared and are no longer pending.

 Yeah, right.

I guess it's even worse when flying internationally. Camera? What camera?

Somebody flying into or out of Denver had a laptop stolen out of a checked bag, and that was only a couple months ago(and who knows how many cases go unreported).

We had some cases here earlier in the year where they found dumpsters full of stolen luggage. Those people who work with your luggage will steal you blind.

I was not talking about ATMS. I actually just drive to the Citibank of the strip and take out whatever I want to gamble.

If I am going to get to Vegas at night I just take out money at my local bank and carry enough to play with for the night... Then I just hit the bank in the morning if I need or want to play bigger with more cash... Fawk flying with large amounts of cash... If you make a deposit just make sure its under 10k and it won't get flagged...

Bank of america's are everywhere... There are a few in Vegas right off the strip...
