Jim Hendry is talking to his old boss...Andy McFAIL about Brian Roberts. Tribune says they may be willing to send Marshall, Gallagher, and either Cedeno or Corey's little brother Eric Patterson. Not Rich Hill though.

Landing Roberts would be a huge move for the Cubs. Would give them a legit leadoff man and add speed to the lineup.

Also...they are still in on Fukodome.

Piniella is quoted in the article saying that Hendry promised Sweet Lou... he would be a happy guy by XMAS.

Fuko and Roberts should put a grin on his face for sure. Get to work Hendry and acquire both of 'em.

Yeah thats the talk right now... oh how sweet it would be to land both of those guys, I have also been hearing Figgins name linked to the Cubs a lot. However Roberts and certainly Fukudome have been talked about a lot. Fukudome needs to hurry up and make up his mind, they said hes coming to MLB but what the hell is he waiting for lets get this done!

Did you watch Baseball Tonight...last night?

It was either Phillips or Olney....cannot remember which one...but they said the Cubs have the largest offer out there for Fukodome.

:think2:Makes me wonder like you...what is taking so long on that guy?

Hopefully things work out.

Yeah I did hear that and it got me excited! Fukudome is going to be a very nice addition if we can get him. He is a very good OBP guy that can do it all. He has good speed, good defense, good arm, hit for a little bit of power and avg, and he can play all 3 outfield spots. This guy sounds perfect for the Cubs and Lou for the way Pinella mixes and matches the lineup so much. Plus he would give us a much needed lefty bat in the lineup. So I think this Fukudome decision is extremely crucial to the Cubs. Hopefully we get him signed. I will be pissed if we dont get him bc then were going to have to trade for someone to play rf and give up too much most likely.

None of those guys on the Cubs should even be thought twice about, GET RID ALL of them if it will bring Brian Roberts in return, personally drive them to the airport and make sure they get on the plane.

With all this talk about overrated, how about Brian Roberts as one of the most underrated?

I think his ex-manager is now the KC Royals manager, which explains why they are in the running. He also has received a very big offer from one of the big teams in Japan.

Regarding Brian Roberts - what are the O's doing? Why would they shop him or Bedard around?

They are in a blow it up and rebuild phase.

Roberts is tough to trade, but if they are going to rebuild he needs to be dealt.

Bedard is a no brainer to trade. He is a free agent after 09 and has already stated that he will not resign in baltimore and has already turned down a three year extension. Those reasons and the fact that it would be hard to picture him having more value than he does now, is why you have to trade Bedard.

I couldn't get him there fast enough. He is 27-28.

Maybe if Baltimore added to their team, Bedard would want to stay.

27-28 means he's just ready to hit his stride. I wouldn't trade him for Roberts either. Hill was the #3 and had pretty good numbers. Cubs can't afford to trade away starting pitching unless they get starting pitching back in return or sign a free agent. Plus you can't have all high-priced players and free agents on the roster, you've got to roll the dice with starting some kids and Hill is one of the few at this point. Hill, Pie, Soto, Theriot are pretty much the players on the cheap. The rest of the lot is pretty much high-priced talent. You've got to have some youth. But I'm fine with trading Marshall, Gallagher, etc. for Roberts.

Trading Hill would be a huge mistake. He is a good fit for our #3 sp. Without him our staff would look much worse. Hill only in his first full season last year had a pretty good season. He started awesome and then went thru roller coaster ride the rest of the season but he has so much upside you cant get rid of him for Brian Roberts... There is speculation that Roberts could be named today on the Mitchell Report, who knows if its true but we cant trade Hill

Now that he is going to be on the list, will they still trade for him? Personally, I would rather have guys who were named on my team, but I am sure I am in the minority...

It would be an upgrade if you are getting Bedard.
