no sir you are not...you are not a real man until you can not only drive a stick but sit at a stop sign on a steep incline with one and not kill it.

You need to learn.

I think it's saved my life a couple of times having a car with stick compared to automatic. It makes you more focused driving and that helps after a couple of drinks. You also have more control of the car in bad weather.

that is probably reason # 39 why you're not a man.

i'd work on the other 38 reasons before you worry about learning to drive a stick...

Here is a start, but there is no real substitute than to take a lesson from a seasoned driver who has plenty of experience driving cars with stick shift or standard transmissions.

Whalewager is right the true test is to be at a complete stop at the top of a hill at a four way stop and be able to keep the car from moving either up or down (forward or backwards) by using the clutch and the gas (no brakes). Then without racing the engine or burning the clutch drive forward when traffic permits, smoothly just like an automatic transmission does when you give it a little gas to go thru an intersection.

Most likey you will experience bucking and stalling when you first try to drive a stick. Find a deserted parking lot with a good teacher and start on level ground and learn hills later once you can make the car move forward without bucking or stalling on flat ground.

Learn To Drive a Stick Shift..

FWIW - don't listen to the am I a man or not stuff. You are a victim of the age we live in. Most likely you are young and never had anyone around you with a stick shift automobile that would take the time to teach you.

I taught both my nephews succesfully and tried to teach I don't know how many women (with mixed results) over the years. The teacher needs to have more patience than the pupil.
