According to Associated Press

Japanese free-agent Kosuke Fukudome has decided not to move to the Yomiuri Giants and will sign with a major league team instead, the Nikkansports newspaper reported Sunday.
Fukudome had previously indicated the Giants would be the only Japanese team he would consider playing for next season, but has now ruled them out, opening the way for a move to the major leagues. Fukudome has drawn interest from the Chicago Cubs, the San Diego Padres and the Chicago White Sox.
The 30-year-old Fukudome is regarded as one of the best outfielders in Japanese professional baseball. He was a key member of the Japan team that won the inaugural World Baseball Classic in March 2006.
He had surgery on his right elbow in August and sat out the Japan Series, but has 192 homers and a .305 batting average over nine seasons with the Chunichi Dragons, who won their first championship in 53 years on Nov. 2.

This is real good news for Cubs fans as the Cubs have basically put all their eggs in 1 basket. They have been revolving their entire off season plans around this Fukudome. Hopefully Hendry gets him signed.

KC is one of the finalists too. Laugh at the White Sox being contenders to get him. They are "players" to get everyone, but get no one, then blame the media for the leak.

When I was in Japan I visited the Fuk U Dome. It's a great place to play baseball.

Relax dude, 5* and I have some history. He will know where I am coming from.

OK, seeing as you are incapable of properly interpreting my "joke" (as evidenced by the smack-head smiley) I will stop now. Obviously I am a die-hard Cubs fan. You can call a Cubs fan alot of things, but thin-skinned ain't one of them. I was just joking with you.

PS I am quite relaxed...

Yea, 10 mil base, with incentives to make another 1 mil. But 10 mil guaranteed. Did they not see his Red Sox performance last season???

Are you concerned? What have the Cubs done this off season?

Crew is something to reckon with. An owner and GM with money and sense. Lets see how it plays out.

Hopefully FUKUDOME is a cub by early this week. Also talks with the O's about Brian Roberts will pick up again.

Agree that the Brewers will be something to reckon with, just dont understand how gagne deserves that money. Guess it is just a 1 year deal, so the risk is minimized.

FUK-U-DO-ME :missingte

Just imagine the fan favorite he would be in RF with the bleacher bums. His contract would be paid in jersey sales alone. Every Cub fan would have to get a FUKUDOME jersey!

I do not like Japanese pitchers. They are good for a year or two in MLB then they start getting crushed 500 ft once batters have seen them a couple times. I would hate to see the Cubs tie up money in this guy.
