The Astros have acquired slugger Miguel Tejada from the Baltimore Orioles for a package that includes outfielder Luke Scott, Matt Albers, Troy Patton, third base prospect Mike Costanzo and perhaps another player, a person with knowledge of the talks has confirmed to the Chronicle.

This still doesn't solve Houston's biggest problem which is the rotation after Oswalt and the bullpen. They seem like they may be the Yankees south with less pitching with Berkman,Tejada,Lee,Pence, etc.

pirates about to ship Bay to SD

hola Bay's best years may be behind him. His knee surgery last year dealt with a problem similar to what Marvin Harrison is going through now, albeit not quite as bad as Harrisons. Still, dont count on him stealing a ton of bases anymore, or tracking down may gap shots anymore. That bad knee coupled with his weak ass arm, and inability to hit in the clutch are enough for me to ship him away. He will still post decent offensive numbers but thats about it. :howdy:

If the O's past trades are any indication, Tejada should hit about .370 this year with 59 hrs/150 RBI. The Ex-Astros/new O's will either have surgery, get hit by a bus or get benched.

Always a fan of receiving an established player for prospects. I know Scott is on his way, but one thing baseball too many guess don't panout.

It’s hard to believe the Astros were in the World Series a few years ago because they are terrible now. Today, they just got a lot worse.

Playing in Oriole Park, Tejada was able to hide the fact that his offensive production has slipped significantly. But just look at his recent home/road splits. In 2007 he had an OPS of .859 at home and .734 on the road. In 2006, it was .958 at home and .798 on the road. In 2005, it was .925 at home and .809 on the road.

Now he’s not going to have the benefit of a great hitter’s park for half his games. Go to his main B-R page and neutralize his stats. Last year, under neutral conditions, he hit .294, but with just a .797 OPS, 18 HR, 77 RBI, and 68 runs scored. And the Astros just gave up the farm for this guy…"

It was amazing how many of Tejada's home runs over the past few years just eeked over the short left-field fence at Camden Yards. He has very little opposite field power.

If things do not go his way (i..e there are not enough Carribean-based players in the clubhouse), he will pout and whine (but mainly in another language like Sosa so it was always hard to decipher exactly what he was complaining about).

He is still going to be in a great hitters park in Houston.
