Would you take Steroids if you were a minor league baseball player 25 years old trying to make it to the big leagues?

im probably a good one to speak on this as i know and have plenty of friends that have taken roids.......... of course now the popular choice is (HGH)......

let me tell you a few things about what they actually do...

you will gain weight, gain muscle mass and become much stronger rather quickly, depending on how much and what kind you take......

once you cycle off, you will lose weight, lose muscle and become weaker rather quickly...

here in lies the problem......

they are (100%) safe if taken correctly......... you must start small, cycle to higher dosages, then cycle back down...... this is done over and eight week period....... then you need to stay clean for a minimum of 8 weeks before starting the next cycle......

the problem comes in ----- not taking the 8 weeks off........ that turns into 6 weeks, then 5 weeks, then 2 weeks and finally your on a constant cycle.....

ive seen it all over the years as im an old gym rat and you just think baseball players take roids, check out the pro-bodybuilders......

for a baseball player, it will take a warning track fly ball into the seats, simple as that......... you still have to have the ability to hit it but it will add distance to the fly balls......... period........

If I were a career minor league in my mid 20's with one fonal shot at making it tothe show ........YES.

If I were at the tail end of an MLB career and wanted to prolong it...probably.

Funny though many of those guys are dead or suffered career ending joint injuries.

Actually I think body builders were using roids way before baseball players. They are always on the cutting edge of supplements.

His abs look like shit.

you'd almost have to take them... if you wanted to make the big leagues at 25.

Yeah I would take them for sure. Paul LoDuca is the perfect example. He was a journeyman catcher in the minors for years and then finally made it up after taking roids or hgh whatever he was using

for the money these guys are playing for probably 95% of the population would say yes. all you have to do is look at the contracts and length of contracts to realize the risk is worth it financially.

absolutely. even if i was in the bigs, i would have done them, especially in the late 90's.

lets see, i can make millions of dollars off of one big contract free agent year; widely accepted in my sport; NOT TESTED FOR OR BANNED.

I would have done them in a heartbeat if i was these guys.

This is a personal account for me. I played competitive baseball until 2 years ago when I had the first of 3 knee surgeries for arthritis. I haven't played since.

In any case, back then, I was coming off minor surgeries on my shoulder and elbow and had done a ton of research on steroids.

I did two cycles of a mild oral anabolic called anavar. it doesn't make you big, but the strength gains are incredible.

I was primarily a pitcher, but the season after I did the cycles, I crushed the ball like never before and had power numbers that I had never approached in my life.

I made the choice to do it because I was getting older and wanted to keep playing and needed help recovering from injuries.

What I don't know is if it had any effect on my knee, as I had never had a leg problem in my life until 2 years ago.

Based on the research I did, the anavar likely had nothing to do with the arthritis directly, but i'll always have the thought that the extra weight I was squatting and leg pressing due to the strength gains, accelerated the arthritis.

Do you have any cartilage damage behind your kneecap?

Do you have any cartilage damage behind your kneecap?

Yes.....when I first went it, I was having pain in the side of my knee that they thought was a torn meniscus. I figured I would have it cleaned up, rehab for 3-4 weeks and be back for the playoffs that season.

They ended up doing a microfracture repair because of the location of the defect (behind the kneecap). I've had two surgeries since then to clean up smaller cartilage tears.

My father had both knees replaced before he turned 60, so this could just as easily be a genetic thing. I beat the shit out of my body playing sports into my late thirties without one leg problem in my life, so this could just be time catching up with me.

I'm still holding out hope as i'm seeing a new doctor in January who is doing some cutting edge work with synthetic cartilage injections.

in terms of MLB if it wasnt banned and I was borderline I wud take it for sure for pure monetary reasons esp if it was at a level not to endanger my health

Ive said it before here but I was prescribed a steroid mix for a shoulder injury I suffered. my physio was the one who did the injecting. didnt really help me in the end as had to have surgery anyway and that killed my career. lost too much strength in my shoulder after that.

No, to answer your question with one word.

I have a couple friends that are in the minors and they'd never go near the stuff. Ruins your body and can destroy your life. Sure it can make you rich but you die much earlier and your legacy is tainted. A lot of great athletes did this to build their legacy because they care so much about it.

If they knew they would get caught I say zero chance they do 'roids. Lo Duca and what not are exceptions and different because they did it to get a chance.

But the big name guys did it to build a legacy and leave their name in time. If you're not good enough to do it legit than don't do it at all.

Would you steal money from your boss if at the time it wasn't an official office rule but it was a law? If you thought your boss would never find out would you embezzle millions of dollars? Because I know I wouldn't.

When you do something for so long you should garner a sense of respect for it. Why tarnish something? Sure some of you are trying to get paid but maybe it just isn't for you.

You don't see me out there stealing lyrics to songs and selling them because I wanted to be a song writer but wasn't good enough.

INTEGRITY is one of the most important parts to being a man, or woman, and once you lose your integrity you lose respect and once you lose respect you are nothing.

SO NO.

How old are you now and how are your knees since microfracture? Are you able to run?

Reason I ask......I went in Fall of 2005 for a a diagnostic scope. (Thought I had a torn meniscus.) Came out of surgery and Dr. told me I had loose carilage behind kneecap so he did a chondroplasty to clean it up. 2-4 week rehab. He shouldnt have touched anything as far as Im concerned b/c he said the whole knee looked great except for some fraying of the kneecap. I was in shape & athletic at the time and struggled for 2 months trying to regain my quad muscle.....My PT started to push me and put to much weight on my ankle. I tried to lif it and I felt the worst painlike tear in my knee. Anyways, it wasnt until 8 months later when they did a 2nd MRI they found I had a hole in my kneecap cartilage. I about shit when they told me there was nothing to fix it. My OS objected to micro on the knee b/c the results were so poor. He mentioned a mosaicplasty but said it had about a 30% chance to work. I saw a 2nd OS (both of these guys deal with pro athletes too) and he mentioned the OBI plugs, but said he never used them on kneecaps but got good success with them elsewhere in the knee. He said they may work but he wasnt sure. He told me to wait and see for a year or two......well, needless to say, my VMO muscle is atrophied, and I can no longer run or play sports (hell, I cant even bowl b/c the pain behind the knee is excruciating when I push weight through it) and I am only 32. Have gained 25 pounds since that surgery and am just waiting for something to come out that will fix articular cartilage. My gate is totally jacked up and my hip is starting to bother me becasue of thiskneecap being out of place due to the weak VMO, but at least I do not have pain on a day to day basis or when I walk so I am thankful for that. Can you tell me a little more about those injections?

Your right on the money.
Steriods get a bad rap through the media. There are many benefits if used properly along with a good diet and proper workout routine.

As for HGH, it's considered a fountain of youth drug if used correctly.

I would take them if I was an average player trying to hit a big paycheck. If other players are going to do it then fuck it im going to join them and gain advantages as well

The only thing that sucks about all of this is the fact that some talented guy is on the pines making less money than the guy that took roids.

Roids are definitely an unfair advantage.

No I would never put that in my system. Look at the wrestlers and what happens to them.

I agree and Canseco said the same thing. It's has it's advantages as long as you use it properly.
