I have my IPOD set up on a laptop that is about to die. I have 550 albums loaded in my library. How do I transfer my IPOD and all contents to another computer. I thought I read it can only go on one computer. I am sure there has to be a solution for this. Any help is appreciated.

thanks

get an external hard drive and transfer your library to the external hard drive. That at least gets your music over there and then you can hook that up to the new computer (also better b/c the computer will run quicker and you don't have to worry about your computer dying and losing the music). I don't, however, know if that will also transfer your play lists over.

You can have up to 5 computers registered on iTunes and you can also deactivate one (the one that you have that will die).

partially, if you downloaded your music to your current computer you need to get it to another place where you can access it. Changing your active computer won't allow you access to a dead hard drive/computer. The first sentence is critical (moving to an external hard drive).

If it is thats dumb. What if the computer crashes (as in my case) and I get a new one. The old computer is now one of my five authorized users for life ???

Agree, I don't know if there is another way to do it, but that appears to be it. I didn't know about it before I got a new computer so I never de-authorized my old one, but now I don't have it so I may well be stuck with it. Haven't really looked into it.
