Do you think it's OK for posters to post lines they got many hours before, like the night before? I'm talking about lines that have changed quite a bit.

Personally, I feel that someone should post a line as soon after they got it as possible. It just bugs me when someone posts a play at noon that doesn't exist anymore and then, when questioned, they say I bet it at 2AM last night. I'm not questioning their integrity. I'm sure they did bet that line at 2 AM. Of course, they should always bet the best line they can get--that's really not the issue.

Some posters claim they got their lines at some local. Some posters post their plays 2 minutes before the game starts. Bugs me. Does it bug you?

I know it's kind of freewheeling here at the RX--but where do you draw the line?

I believe they ask you to post lines that are avaliable to all when you are posting picks. I also know you will be called out for that crap if you do it to often

you dont really draw the line. a person should post a line that is there or had just moved. its information that is exchanged. Only play solid lines if you miss a move take a pass unless you still see some value. dont be too concerned if so and so appears to win a game by 1/2 point and you pushed it or lost it just smile and use it as information.

It is definetely O.K. If you tail somebody and they post what they played (whenever they played it), it is nice to know the number they thought had value. If a guy I tail posts Bradley +6 and I go look and it is +4 now, I'll lay off.

If they are an attention whore just trying to get a better record for their internet persona that is another story.

its not OK, we ask our members to use WA (widely available) lines at the time they post.

If posters werent allowed to use past numbers there would only be something like 3 showing a profit at the end of the Year. The other Forum moneymaker is accidently forgetting the juice on extra 1/2 pts. :drink:

If the belief is that 1% of bettors win and there are 38000 posters on the site then there would be 380 successful bettors. I'm not saying that is an accurate figure but it's not like a winning bettor is a needle in a haystack here, particularly when you consider that successful posters are more likely to continue to post than those who aren't successful, so naturally there will be a bias towards being successful among the regulars.

However most of these aren't beating WA lines and I think only a very small percentage would actually post picks. Variance aside, I think that it wouldn't be an unreasonable estimate for successful bettors who post picks to number in the single digits. I also think a successful bettor is less likely to post picks. Only a small percentage of the winners on this side are actually profitable bettors; most are just on the positive side of variance. In fact, of the posters I'd consider successful bettors there would be no more than a few who post picks.
