ESPN reporting Edmonds has been traded to Padres for a minor league prospect. As a diehard Cardinal fan, this is a sad day for me. Edmonds is one of my all time favorites. He will always be a Cardinal to me. Thanks Jim for some great years.

I'm looking forward to him playing 120 games and hitting 247 with 13 bombs. Great pick up by the Pads

Edmonds is past his prime but he was a major cog in our run last decade. He single handedly saved the NLCS in 04 with walkoff HR in Game 6 and game saving catch in Game 7. He was and always will be a big time player in big games. His defense has been second to none.

Fact is everybody is guilty especially any Card in your eyes being a Cub fan. I could name or guess players on the Cubs as well. Fact is nearly everybody was or is so it was a level playing field. Steroids/HGH does not help you hit the ball. If you could not hit it before roids, didn't help you after. So with that in mind, still one of the best of our times in CF.

Point being, the Diamondbacks, who won the division, went out and got themselves another ace. The Padres went out and got themselves a broken down pony with few good rides left on some old legs.

He will join the laundry list of players who can't play a full season as a Padre. No way will he be able to do anything other than hit 6th for the Pads. A desperate moves by the Padres to do something to counter the other NL West moves. Wake me when they actually get a big time player, alla Jason Bay.

I'm sure they will alternate in the order with Kouz and Greene and whichever piece of crap they sign as a twobagger as fillers

This has been a very hard day maybe my hardest as a father. My daughter's favorite player is Jim Edmonds. When I broke the news to her when she got up, she immediately started crying. This has been going on for about 2 hours. She has gotten all her Edmonds stuff out reminiscing about her player. I can't imagine when larger things in life occur how things are going to be like. This really sucks but it makes me proud to know my kids care so much about things in life though how small in importance it really is.

Regarding the Cards overall assessment, here are my thoughts. IF you look at the time frame starting with Larussa's arrest, it has been comical.
Larussa arrested for DUI
Hancock kills himself in DUI accident
Spezio goes to drug rehab
Ankiel's name comes up in steroid/hgh scandal
Cody Mckay listed in Mitchell report (son of 1b coach Dave McKay)
Rolen/Larussa feud
These are just a few in last 12 months. There have been plenty others including DK death in Chicago (drug related?). Fact of the matter is Tony does not run a tight ship and looks the other way. In fact rumors and being reported in STL that Larussa was interviewed by Mitchell Investigation and they asked him if he knew these things were going on. He supposedly admitted it but said what could he do. I believe the main reason on surface why he came back was thinking Cards would be competitive. I actually believe mgmt. forced him to come back to take some of the heat for this Steroid Investigation. I could not believe when he came back without Jocketty to begin with. He had been signing one year contracts why sign a 2 year now? Makes no sense at all now. Like Cards history suggests is after 10 year period of championship run, a decade of bad baseball follows. After 60's came the dreary 70's. AFter 80's came bad baseball in 90's. I just hope that young kids out there simply trust their ability and stay off the juice. As a baseball coach, I know I for one will make sure that I preach it. I love the game of baseball and want it to return to what it once was which was drug free and done for the spirit of competition and love for the game. Not for the money! I actually may cancel my MLB package and boycott Cards games this year as very disenchanted with not only players but hate Cards management as well. LOL but I may have to root for Cubs this year. Hold that thought, I can't stoop that low as diehard Cards fan so maybe Royals. LOL

Edmunds had a very nice career in St Louis. Are they in rebuilding mode now with Eckstein gone too?

I don't know if they are for sure or not but the writing is on the wall.

Fish,
If Edmonds makes the HOF, who do you think he will go in as? Believe me it will be in a Cards uniform.

No brainer, way more production in SL and didn't get much love in anaheim.

He should be a free agent right now, scrambling to find someone to pay him 2 million for one season. Cardinals had an option on him last year for like 9 million, but they tore it up and gave him 2 years for 18 million. Fucking idiots.

I won't miss him, in fact I'm glad he's gone. Some great memories that I'd like to remember, rather than the shit that I see now every time he steps to the field. He's done.

Edmonds won't sniff the HOF. He'll be remembered as a Cardinal, though.
