CoolBreeze you are 100% correct. You kick the FG and it is a no brainer.

I might add Marshall Faulk and Deion Sanders are the worst announcers I have ever seen in my life. I should throw in Gumbal too. Wow are they bad in insisting "what is the difference" if you kick the FG. Dumb!

The 49er kicker set a franchise record for consecutive kicks made inside the 40. There was a high chance he would have made the kick and Cincinnati would have needed 2 scores to win.

Paraphrase: "They were just seeing how QB Hill performs in 4th down situation, besides they need to lose to get the best draft pick!!!!!!"

1. They do not have their own pick.

2. They had all game to see how the QB does

ROll what dice? It is not 4th down from your own 40 down by 3. You are up and have a chance for a win. What difference in evaluation do you get by going for it on 4th down??? You had all game for evaluation. Time to get a well deserved win.

Also if anyone things that San Fran did not want to win then as Bill Parcels would say: "You do not know much about competition"

FWIW - word from Sportsline.com write up on game.

Joe Nedney hit two field goals in the third quarter, but 49ers coach Mike Nolan passed up the chance to kick a 42-yarder with 6:15 to play at his players' insistence, instead failing on a fourth-down conversion attempt.

Maybe he did listen to his players as a reward for them playing what was for them a solid game to that point.

What is the benefit for going for it on 4th down??? There is none. If they are tied or losing then yes. Players just want to go for it. It is the coaches who are supposed to be smart. Frisco did thesame thing on Mon night against Seattle and failed there too (they were losing though but it was the 3rd qtr and still in the game). San Fran played hard and wanted that win. ANyone hwodoes not think so is nuts. THey almost blew it. This is one terrible decision. I do understand that these teams are going nowhere but a win is a win is a win.
