In his first 455 games, he was hitting a HR every 7.84 games.

In his next 588 games, he was hitting a HR every 3.33 games.

Then, after the steroid talk last year when alot of players cleaned up their act, Ortiz' HR total went way down (almost 20 HRs).

Do steroids make you change the spelling of your last name too?

* Ortiz graduated from Estudia Espaillat High School in the Dominican Republic and in 1992 he was signed by the Seattle Mariners who listed him as "David Arias" (possibly not understanding Spanish naming customs).

In 1996, the Mariners received Dave Hollins from the Minnesota Twins for a player to be named later. Later that season, the Mariners announced that the player to be named later would be Arias. When he arrived in Minnesota, he informed the team that he preferred to be listed as "David Ortiz" making him quite literally a "player to be named later".

No more or less likely than any other professional athlete who have all passed regular drug tests

I don't know man. His arms look insanely ripped in the 2nd picture.

You can barely see his arms in that second picture. Anyone can easily add muscle size when you add 50-pounds of bodyweight and a lot of that weight is definitely around his waist

Big Papi is off to a horrible start this year...Luckily Manny, JD Drew and Kevin Youkilis are hitting fairly well enough (nothing great) to take up the slack. Manny had a big day today with a double, homer and 3 RBI to lead the Red Sox to a 4-3 win over the Yanks behind Josh Beckett, Jon Papelbon and co. Both teams are 6-6 on the young season.

0-6 vs. the rays friday night.

Does not help the average, currently at .177

The Red Sox stranded the potential go-ahead run in scoring position in the ninth, 10th and 11th inning. Scott Dohmann (1-0) got David Ortiz -- the only batter he faced -- to ground into an inning-ending double play with men at first and third in the top of the 11th.

<!--//article Image//--><!--//article//-->Red Sox slugger David Ortiz [stats] last night admitted working out at the gym of suspected steroids supplier Angel Presinal, but characterized the relationship as strictly between player and trainer.
Appearing on Comcast SportsNet’s “Mohegan Sun Sports Tonight,” Ortiz confirmed he used Presinal’s facility in the Dominican Republic. Presinal, who has close ties to Alex Rodriguez and is banned in big league clubhouses, was the subject of a New York Daily News story yesterday that linked Ortiz and a dozen other Dominican players to Presinal’s gym in Santo Domingo.
“This place where he works out is a facility that’s like five minutes away from my house,” Ortiz said. “It’s like an Olympic place where everyone goes and hits, runs, gets all their work in. It’s like in the middle of everyone’s houses, so we all go down there and work out. He’s a good trainer. He’s the guy that teaches you how to train, how to get your body ready to go. Besides that, I have no idea about any of this.”
Presinal was banned from big league clubhouses in 2001 after border agents in Toronto intercepted a gym bag full of steroids that Presinal signed for. When questioned, he told investigators it belonged to Indians outfielder Juan Gonzalez.
“He got into some trouble before from what I hear, and that’s something he’s got to deal with, especially with what’s going on,” Ortiz said.
Major League Baseball investigators want to talk with Rodriguez about his cousin and Presinal. The New York Yankees star said his cousin injected him from 2001-03 with a banned substance obtained in the Dominican called “boli.”
Second baseman Orlando Hudson reached an agreement on a one-year contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Reliever Jason Isringhausen signed a minor league contract with the Tampa Bay Rays.
Brian Roberts signed a $40 million, four-year extension with the Baltimore Orioles.

Im sure 80% of these HR hitters have used something illegal at some point in the last 10 years....you almost had to in order to keep up with the "Jones'"

I dont know how Pujols has gotten away so far unscathed......Ive seen this guy hit balls out of the park to the opposite field that had no business going out. There is no way he is 100% clean IMO.

I couldnt agree more about Pujols....its a lot of these Domincan guys....I assume everyone is guilty until proven innocent though.....sad, but thats what baseball has done....it wouldnt surprise me if Jeter or Ripken did it....of course even if they DID, MLB might protect God...errr I mean Jeter....Even the guys that swore they didnt do it ....ended up doing it and getting caught...how can you believe ANY of them that say they havent done it? If I didnt do it, Id say, here, test me right now....release my name from those tests.....
