MFs left me hanging today and, in the spirit of the whole "when you have a bad experience you tend to tell more people than if you had a good experience", I got hosed by Circuit City today.

At the last minute, my wife decides she wants to buy a laptop for one of the kids. She goes online this morning and sees that there's one that she wants at our local Circuit City store, so she orders it online for store pickup today and asks me to do it. It's not the store near our house, but it is one on the other side of town.

So I roll over there after the lunch crowd settles down and wait for 30 minutes for someone to help me. The laptop that I wanted that was allegedly in stock is not and the guy offers me one that is $150 more expensive. No deal. I ask him to ship one to my house and he tells me it will be 5-7 days. No deal again. I figure that I would get some reaction when I cancel my order, but he just processed it without comment.

On the way out of the store, I grab a couple of small items. I stood at the checkout counter forever and nobody even acknowleged me. I should have just walked out the door with them, but I just left them at the cash register and left.

Apparently, Circuit City is doing well enough that they don't need my money.

They are supposed to guarantee that your item will be there within 24 minutes.
Call customer service, you should get hooked for that crap.

Send an email to consumerist.com too, they can help out most likely, that site rocks.

Even on their site they have that 24/24 guarantee. If it's not there, you get a $24 gift card

My buddies story from a few weeks ago should make you feel better.

He goes into Circuit City to buy a big screen TV for Black Friday or whatever it's called. He buys it and walks out to the car as the first one out the door. On the way out, his buddy says "Hell they didn't even check our receipt, we could have just walked out the door with this TV" which gave my buddy an excellent idea since he still had his receipt. He goes back in and realizes they are checking receipts now. He grabs a 2nd big screen off the rack and walks to the door. They ask him for his receipt, he shows them the one for the first TV, he walks out the door. 2 TVs for like $500.

And the moral of the story is, it's ok to steal as long as it's from
a corporation and not an individual?

I'd say the guy is a scumbag for stealing.

Very ballsy move... put aside the morality of stealing, for now.

Cameras record what is going on, security may be watching on monitors. If paid with by CC or check, they have evidence of identity.

If it makes you feel better, Best Buy is clobbering Circuit City. Lots of firings and store closings to come after Christmas.

Ahhh, just a matter of time before Best Buy was mentioned:

Woman Tasered In Front Of Customers At Best Buy :scared:

The entire incident was caught on store surveillance. In the video, 35-year-old Elizabeth Beeland is visible as she allegedly causes a commotion at the entrance to the store after being confronted about the use of a suspect credit card that was actually her's.

Sears has a radio ad that states you will get your product in 5 minutes if you order it online and go to the store to pick it up. I wonder how successful they are with that.

I don't remember what they say you will get if you don't get your product within 5 minutes.

that's much safer, but I still don't think I'd have the chutzpah to walk back in and walk out with another TV.

You wouldn't have time enough to bring the 1st one home, then do it. You'd have to do it fast.

Pass for me. It is theft, no different than shoplifting,IMO !

I'd recognize the security lapse, but not try to exploit it.

I envision Judge Judy chewing me out. I can't think of an answer to why I walked back in the store and took another TV.

Definitely a thief. Never said he wasn't. Just told the story to cheer up the poster who was pissed at the store.

If it will make you feel even better, their stock crashed about 25%
today. Can you say "Death Spiral"?
