Dusty Baker does not like young position players...lol

There was talk that the Cubs were trying to acquire him, but Cincy did not want to deal within the divsion...meaning Dusty did not want him traded to the team that he is gunning for.

Plus the Reds need pitching...maybe they are trying to strike gold with Volquez.

Anytime a player has had alcohol and drug addiction, then they can be a real dangerous hire. They are 50% more likely to have agression issues as well and most likely will have a relapse at least one time. He is a risky player

this is generally what i was thinking as well. obviously every day the kid wakes up, its a new challenge for him. demons are right around the corner. but he couldnt have been making much for the reds and to just give him away like that is perplexing. anyone able to dig up the contract he was on with the reds? he certainly wasnt making #1 draft pick money this time around so to just unload him for a mediocre pitcher like volquez is strange.

Hamilton will be an All-Star and hit 35+ HRs for Texas if he is healthy and a regular.

I'm sure he was just making the league minimum, and won't be eligible for arbitration for another 2 years. It does seem strange.

you're looking for something that isn't there...

Hamilton is a risk because of his past off the field issues....Volquez is also very talented but went through a bad stretch on the field at one point before bouncing back stronger than ever

The Reds obviously needed pitching help more than hitting.

The reds took a gamble because of their surplus of outfielders and thus far its looking really good (actually pretty good for both teams)

But think if Texas had Volquez and Chris Young? Cinci still has to lose an OF so Jay Bruce can play everyday. Just may be Dusty's boy Patterson.

Trust me, I know Pitching trumps hitting any day so without being biased I would take the pitcher everyday of the week. You should hear the scouts rave about Bruce, more than a few have said he would be their starting CF right now and apparently these were teams with good CF's

Griffey is going to get moved to some AL team and the Reds will pick up more pitching and some random prospects. Jay Bruce will get called up and be a starting OF.

Speaking of crazy trades, has anyone ever seen the players in the Colon to Expos deal?

The Expos sent Brandon Phillips, Grady Sizemore and Cliff Lee to the Indians for Colon. Can you say.."one sided"?
