[FONT=verdana,arial,helvetica,sans-serif][FONT=verdana,arial,helvetica,sans-serif]“Last year I was working and didn’t contact the Salvation Army because I didn’t want to take away from kids who really needed it,” Imes said. “But this year I contacted them because I’m not working right now and I only receive $100 a month in unemployment” benefits.[/FONT][/FONT]

[FONT=verdana,arial,helvetica,sans-serif][FONT=verdana,arial,helvetica,sans-serif]“I don’t want to sound ungrateful,” Imes said. “I’m very appreciative of everything they’ve done for me.”[/FONT][/FONT]
[FONT=verdana,arial,helvetica,sans-serif][FONT=verdana,arial,helvetica,sans-serif]But after making requests for simple items, including some baby’s underclothes, socks and some T-shirts for her child, Imes was not satisfied with the gifts the nonprofit provided. “I don’t like to complain, but I would rather have had some things I could have used.[/FONT][/FONT]
[FONT=verdana,arial,helvetica,sans-serif][FONT=verdana,arial,helvetica,sans-serif]Gifts for Imes’ son included a gift for a little girl in the Christmas toy bag, used toddler shoes and onesies for a newborn, not a one-year-old, she said.[/FONT][/FONT]
[FONT=verdana,arial,helvetica,sans-serif][FONT=verdana,arial,helvetica,sans-serif]And “some of the gifts were opened,” Imes said.[/FONT][/FONT]

[FONT=verdana,arial,helvetica,sans-serif][FONT=verdana,arial,helvetica,sans-serif]“Some of the volunteers that put those bags together are just as in need as we are,” Turner said. “I’m telling you they are going through that stuff and taking what they want from the bags.”[/FONT][/FONT]

Imes and Turner said they would not be participating in the Salvation Army Christmas giveaway next year.[/FONT][/FONT]

[FONT=verdana,arial,helvetica,sans-serif][FONT=verdana,arial,helvetica,sans-serif]“I’m clueless as to what to say. If it was a problem we would have done everything we can to fix this. You can’t do anything with a problem you don’t know about.”[/FONT][/FONT]

[FONT=verdana,arial,helvetica,sans-serif][FONT=verdana,arial,helvetica,sans-serif]Statesville Salvation Army Capt. Glenda Priest said those who signed up for participation in the Christmas toy giveaway and Angel Tree program were carefully informed that there were no guarantees their child’s Angel Tree requests would be picked by a donor. Everyone signing up to participate in the program was made to sign a disclaimer from any guarantees.[/FONT][/FONT]
[FONT=verdana,arial,helvetica,sans-serif][FONT=verdana,arial,helvetica,sans-serif]The Salvation Army, however, made sure every child received a bag of toys, Priest said.[/FONT][/FONT]

[FONT=verdana,arial,helvetica,sans-serif][FONT=verdana,arial,helvetica,sans-serif]“Everybody comes and does an application for Christmas assistance,” Priest said. “Volunteers took applications and every child’s name was put on an Angel Tree. We have parents list their children on an application for the Angel Tree program and we tell them although there are no guarantees that their child’s angel will be picked, we will provide toys, stockings, and a food box -as long as there are food boxes available to distribute.”[/FONT][/FONT]

disgusting... this is what people in Quebec here are like, I am renting a basement apartment in my house to some 21 year old punk who thinks the world owes him everything....

he scams by collecting welfare and working under the table so the rest of society has to pay for his existence, but worst of all, he mistakingly believes he is "owed" it somehow.

(I didn't rent to him, he was already here when I bought the house)

I have met quite a few ex pats down here from Canada and this is the whole reason they left Canada.

I remember working for a sports book a long time ago one of our Canadian clients begged to have us send him the WU in another name because he was collecting unemployment and was afraid receiving the WU in his name might disqualify him from his unemployment and he was no small fish in the poker room.....

This is a good summary of why no one should receive any benefits unless they have a family emergency of some sort like an illness or accident.

She should have humbled herself a little and taken that low paying job to at least get some gifts for her kid.

I hate these new debit cards they are putting out instead of food stamps. They should embarras them as much as possible to get them off the shit as fast as possible. Like making a line for people collecting food stamps only at grocery stores. Not make it more convenient.
