Or are they announced at the end of the season? Trying to plan around when Seattle would play their playoff game and going back to school. I'm thinking the #3 vs #6 NFC wildcard game would take place on Sunday Jan. 6th. If anyone has a link that would confirm this that would be great. I can't remember how it all works as far as which networks get which games. Thanks.

Scenarios..

Cleveland can clinch a playoff berth in Week 17 with:
a Tennessee loss OR a win.

Tennessee can clinch a playoff berth in Week 17 with:
a win and a Cleveland loss.

Washington can clinch a playoff berth in Week 17 with: A win OR
Minnesota loss

Minnesota can clinch a playoff berth in Week 17 with:
a win and a Washington loss.

Life Support department:

New Orleans can clinch a playoff berth in Week 17 with:
a win and a Minnesota loss and a Washington loss.

I left out all if tie scenarios because lets face it there won't be any ties all of a sudden in week 17.

AFC Playoff tiebreakers

Cleveland is the No. 6 seed by way of a better conference record over Tennessee (7-5 to Titans' 6-5)

NFC Playoff tiebreakers

Seattle is the No. 3 seed by way of a better head-to-head record over Tampa Bay (1-0).

Washington is the No. 6 seed by way of a better head-to-head record over Minnesota (1-0).

I assume there still could be a flip flop in the AFC for the 3 and 4 seeds because San Diago has two more games and Pittsburg one. Right now San Diego SD has tiebreaker advantage over PIT for #3 seed in case of tie.

I believe it will be Tenn. Vs Indy. I think they have to call change 12 days before.

Week 17
Saturday, Dec. 29
Game Time TV
New England at N.Y. Giants 8:15 pm NFL Network
Sunday, Dec. 30
Game Time TV
Buffalo at Philadelphia 1:00 pm CBS
Carolina at Tampa Bay 1:00 pm FOX
Cincinnati at Miami 1:00 pm CBS
Detroit at Green Bay 1:00 pm FOX
Jacksonville at Houston 1:00 pm CBS
New Orleans at Chicago 1:00 pm FOX
Seattle at Atlanta 1:00 pm FOX
San Francisco at Cleveland 1:00 pm FOX
Dallas at Washington 4:15 pm FOX
Kansas City at N.Y. Jets 4:15 pm NBC
Minnesota at Denver 4:15 pm FOX
Pittsburgh at Baltimore 4:15 pm CBS
San Diego at Oakland 4:15 pm CBS
St. Louis at Arizona 4:15 pm FOX
Tennessee at Indianapolis 8:15 pm CBS

When you think about it - that game will mean something if Cleveland somehow loses to San Francisco.

Regarding Washington as #6 seed:

Anything could happen there - say what you want, but I don't see the Cowboys laying down for this one - sure definitely no TO but they will still come to compete.

Denver the mystery team of the year - who will show up against an almost as mysterious Viking team. Denver at home never easy for the best teams.

regarding cleveland
tennesee has to lose.doesnt matter what cleveland does
<!-- / message -->

If Tennesee loses thats true, but if they win and Cleveland loses then Tenn. advances.

Natrually Cleveland will be highly motivated to leave nothing to chance when they play a 1PM EST game against the Niners on Sunday. A win by the Brownies and the Tenn/Indy Sunday night game has no playoff implications at all.

My bad then, I thought Cleveland had the tiebreaker if both win on Sunday but it's Tennesee that has it by better record against common opponets.

So if both win Tenn advances - If one loses and the other wins the winner advances.

The problem for The Titans is they have to win at Indy and the Browns are at home vs the 49ers. Quite a difference in competition. You have to make the Browns the favorite to advance despite losing tiebreaker as it stands right now.

Titans don't have the tie-breaker, both teams do.

Titans win the tie breaker if BOTH teams win.

Titans lose the tie-breaker if BOTH teams lose.

What does that have to do with my statement? My point is that it is more than likely that Cleveland will win and Tennesee wil lose this Sunday given the competition and location of their games making any tiebreaker a moot point. According to the posts above mine they are losing tiebreaker as it stands NOW - not after next weeks games.

I was under the impression that if they both lose then the tie-breaker is AFC record, and Cleveland has a better record against the AFC and is playing an NFC opponent, so it can get no worse. If Tennessee wins then the two teams have the same AFC record and the tie-breaker goes to common opponents which Tennesee wins.

the titans are favored on the road in this game for a reason
Dungy has already stated Manning won't play more then a half, i think more like a quarter especially if anyone saw the first meeting and the pressure and hits he took from this team.Personally would like to see the Browns get in.
should be interesting

Good point but even without Peyton playing more than the first half the Colts in the Dome are still a tougher game than drawing the Niners in your own backyard like the Browns have.

I have mixed emotions as I like both Mario Crennel and Jeff Fischer and would like to see them both make it to the playoffs with teams few gave a chance to at the beginning of the year.

Flexible Scheduling
Allows teams to play their way onto the Sunday night schedule
Last season, the NFL implemented for the first time in its history a primetime "flexible scheduling" element on Sundays in Weeks 10-15 and in Week 17.
Flexible scheduling ensured quality matchups on Sunday night in those weeks and gave surprise teams a chance to play their way onto primetime.
The 2007 NFL schedule will again utilize flexible scheduling in Weeks 11-17. The NBC Sunday night time slot for "flex" weeks will list the game tentatively scheduled for Sunday night.
Only Sunday afternoon games are eligible to be moved to Sunday night, in which case the tentatively scheduled Sunday night game will be moved to an afternoon start time. Flexible scheduling will not be applied to games airing on Thursday, Saturday or Monday nights.
Just as the six major college football conferences have done for many years, the NFL will have the flexibility to move the start times of games on Sundays, using a 12-day notice format.
For example, a game scheduled for a Sunday could move from a 1:00 p.m. ET kickoff to an 8:15 p.m. start, but the change would be made and announced no later than the prior Tuesday, 12 days prior.
The NFL has commonly moved games between 1:00 p.m. ET and 4:15 p.m. ET on Sunday afternoons, and the NFL now employs flexible scheduling to include one of its primetime packages of games - on Sunday evenings.
Sunday afternoon games, as in the past, can still be moved between 1:00 and 4:05 or 4:15 p.m. ET.
In Week 17, in order to ensure a Sunday night game with playoff implications, the decision to move the start time may be made on six days notice.
NFL Flexible Scheduling 101
  • Begins Sunday of Week 11
  • In effect during Weeks 11-17
  • Only Sunday afternoon games are subject to being moved into the Sunday night window.
  • The game that has been tentatively scheduled for Sunday night during flex weeks will be listed at 8:15 p.m. ET.
  • The majority of games on Sundays will be listed at 1:00 p.m. ET during flex weeks except for games played in Pacific or Mountain Time zones which will be listed at 4:05 or 4:15 p.m. ET.
  • No impact on Thursday, Saturday or Monday night games.
  • The NFL will decide (after consultation with CBS, FOX, NBC) and announce as early as possible the game being played at 8:15 p.m. ET. The announcement will come no later than 12 days prior to the game. The NFL may also announce games moving to 4:05 p.m. ET and 4:15 p.m. ET.
  • Week 17 start time changes could be decided on 6 days notice to ensure a game with playoff implications.
  • The NBC Sunday night time slot in "flex" weeks will list the game that has been tentatively scheduled for Sunday night.
  • Fans and ticket holders must be aware that NFL games in flex weeks are subject to change 12 days in advance (6 days in Week 17) and should plan accordingly.
  • NFL schedules all games.
  • Teams will be informed as soon as they are no longer under consideration or eligible for a move to Sunday night.
