The underachieving Bulls (9-16) have lost three of their last four and were booed throughout by the home crowd during Saturday night's 116-98 loss to the Houston Rockets.
"This was a difficult decision to make, but one that was necessary at this time," Bulls general manager John Paxson said in a release. "Scott helped us in many ways during his time with the Bulls; most importantly, he helped this franchise get back to respectability. I am appreciative of his hard work and the imprint that he left on our team."
The Bulls didn't immediately announce a replacement for Skiles, who went 165-172 after replacing Bill Cartwright in November 2003.
Chicago is in a familiar spot with this season's slow start.
The Bulls dropped their first nine in 2004-05 and were 4-15 before going on a surge that led to 47 wins and their first playoff appearance since the Michael Jordan era. They needed a late surge the next season to make it to the playoffs, winning 12 of their final 14 regular-season games to finish with 41 wins.
And with high expectations following the arrival of Ben Wallace, the Bulls promptly dropped nine of their first 12 last season before turning things around. They wound up with 49 wins and swept Miami to capture a playoff series, then lost in six games to Detroit in the second round.
There were no major acquisitions in the offseason. Instead, the most notable moves were the ones the Bulls did not make -- contract extensions for Ben Gordon and Luol Deng and a blockbuster trade for Kobe Bryant.

John Paxson: "Hey Scott, I hope you and your family have a wonderful Christmas."

Scott Skiles: "Thanks John. Same to you and your family."

John Paxson: "Oh and one other thing......YOU'RE FIRED!!! Get the hell out of the building. You're worthless as a coach."

Paxson should also get the axe. The stupidity of this guy was in full force after the draft. How can you give up Aldridge, Chandler, and Pargo for some energy-giving scrubs. What about the hilarious contract he offered to Wallace? I agree that Skiles lost his grasp on this team, but Paxson still being there will get this team nowhere.

Wasn't it on Christmas eve that Wirtz fired Blackhawk coach Billy Reay by sliding a pink slip under his door?

That was money well spent on Ben Wallace

It's a Chicago tradition. Bulls released Artis Gilmore on 12/24, and forced Tim Floyd to resign on 12/24 too.

This firing should be no surprise. Players basically have quit on him.

Reminds me of Doug Collins. Great with a young team. Eventially the veterans will shut him out, and that seems to have happened.

Thats exactly what happened, they have grown tired of his act. His coaching style just grew old on the players and they eventually just tuned him out.

I didn't know 5 star knew some NBA players that let him know they tuned out Skiles

get them to hook me up with some tickets when I'm in Chicago this week

Its obvious if you watch the Bulls play, they dont play with the same fire and intensity as they have in years past. They were sick of his style it was obvious. I dont know any of the players personally but I can hook you up with some tickets if your going to be in town

You guys are big shooters with those kick-ass Bulls tickets. Trade them in for Blackhawks tickets.
