Go grab some of this...

Liddell is the better all around fighter here...

Both guys coming off of two losses but Silva has to adapt his gameplan to the UFC rules which take away his two most powerful weapons: Knees and Kicks to a downed opponent. I also think Silva will have trouble with being drug tested as he has looked like a roid monkey his whole career to me. Silva came out in his last fight against Dan Henderson (His 1st in the US in years) and showed obvious signs of coming off a cycle as he lost stamina quickly and looked smaller than he has in his previous KO loss to Cro Cop.

Go grab some Liddell at this number quick as I have heard his training camp has looked wonderful and he is really focused in on this fight.

Best of luck to everyone and Have a Great XMAS.

Also take a look at:

Lyoto Machida -140... I am not going to big here but I think he wins.

Georges St. Pierre -240... Wait to play this fight until the number drops to around -180 tp -200 and hit it. GSP is the much better fighter.

This is going to be an insane crowd!

The Ultimate Fighting Championship on Monday announced via its website that UFC 79, scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 29 at the Mandalay Bay Event Center in Las Vegas, is completely sold-out.

The main event features a battle between Matt Hughes and Georges St-Pierre for the interim welterweight championship. This marks the third time the two will meet with each having a win over the other.

Hughes was originally slated to face fellow Ultimate Fighter coach and current welterweight titleholder Matt Serra, but Serra had to bow out due to a back injury.

“Obviously, the loss of Matt Serra was brutal, but the great thing about the UFC is that we can put together great fights like Hughes-St-Pierre at a moment’s notice and bounce right back,” said UFC president Dana White. “I have the utmost respect for both Hughes and St-Pierre for stepping up for this fight … the winner is going to face off next year against Matt Serra for the undisputed title.”

Also hi-lighting UFC 79 is a highly anticipated bout between former UFC champion Chuck Liddell and former Pride champion Wanderlei Silva.

The UFC also announced that it would hold a closed-circuit screening of UFC 79 inside the Mandalay Bay Ballroom beginning at 7 p.m. PT.

never ordered a UFC event, this one sounds tempting

Honestly this is the one to order if you have never seen one.

This Liddell/Silva match has been talked about for over five years as both fighters dominated the LHW division during that time.

GSP/Hughes is a fight between arguably the top 2 170 lbs. fighters in history. Hughes is undeniably the greatest but he was dispatched very quickly by GSP last Nov...

Undercard is strong as well as Machida/Sukodojo and the return of Melvin Guillard should provide fireworks...

I have been a fan of this since the first days of the UFC and this event is at the top of my list in terms of anticipation.

If you order the show hit me up closer to fight time and I will get you my ticket to what I am playing.

GL and Merry XMAS.

To determine values for my plays I use 1 to 5 stars..

I am a regular poster at MW and all of my picks are documented over there with this rating system...

This month I have actually played two ***** star plays and hit them both. (Mayweather and Jason Miller...) I am not the type to freely use the five star bet but I felt VERY confident with both of those numbers...

For this Liddell play I am in the **** area right now. I feel very strongly about it and may hit the number again. I also grabbed a small piece of Liddell by decision @ +715 because I felt the number was just out of whack in a 3 round fight.

Have you looked at this fight yet?

Lidell grossly overrated. A product of Dana Whites hype machine. Lidell became famous for beating level B Americans that were former junior college wrestlers.

YOu should see the legions of these tatooed, goatee, UFC wannabe morons, they are multiplying like a rat infestation. They arent athletes, and there hero will take his 3rd staright beating.

Silva -120 big for me.

No, I don't follow (nor do I actually like) UFC but you actually made a coherent, intelligent, informative argument for why I should bet it (something that eludes some/alot on here). And, being a degenerate-in-training, I felt like asking you about your confidence in the bet. Think I'll throw something on it.

Thanks for your input...

Wsidewarrior... I have to disagree with you here I think Silva is the better fighter at this stage in his career. Liddell like railbird said is nothing but hype. He isnt what he once was... Good Luck to you though and welcome to therx nice to have a MMA guy around

This is a post I made at MW to a sharp guy over there I commonly correspond with before fights:

In my opinion Liddell wins this fight for a number of reasons:

A) Silva loses strikes to downed opponents. Huge part of his gameplan.
B) Silva will be tested for juice. He was obviously off of it for the Henderson fight as he looked sluggish and less powerful.
C) Fighting in the cage is much different than the ring. Although Silva has experience, I think the transition will be difficult for him.
D) Silva is an agressor which fits right in to Chucks counter punching style.
E) This is Silvas first fight away from Chute Boxe. I think we will find problems there while he works ou the kinks...

If interested, this is my opinion concerning the GSP/Hughes fight as well...

I hope Hughes gives his best effort because it sure didn't look like he gave it the second time these guys fought or the first time he fought Penn. Bottom line is that Hughes made a career out of out hustling other fighters and having strong grappling but I truly believe the game has passed him by. GSP is better than him at every facet of the fight game. I make GSP a 3-1 favorite here after thoroughly looking this fight over. GSP has had the much better camp training with Team Jackson Guys as well as Dennis Kang and others while Hughes has been at his training camp with a bunch of amateurs and an injured Robbie Lawler. Smart money is on GSP. I think he wins easily here but I am hoping to get a better number.

Liddell is at his best when hes fighting vs the wrestlers but when he is facing off against a guy like Wand who is a good striker he struggles. Wand KO'd Rampage twice who KO'd Chuck twice... Just something to think about. liddell has looked like shit his last 2 fights

Liddell has beaten nothing but B-Level American fighters..lol

Thats laughable. He has beaten Randy Couture twice who is one of the greatest if not the greatest fighters in history, Brazlian "Babalu" Sobral who went undefeated for four years in between back to back losses to Liddell, he KO'ed All American wrestler and former UFC HWY champion Kevin Randleman, knocked out former LHW champion Tito Ortiz who still has never been stopped by anyone else besides Liddell and Frank Shamrock, he knocked down Vitor Belfort on his way to a decision victory, and the list goes on and on...

Liddell bottom line is one of the all time greats. He perfected the sprawl and brawl and is an excellent counter puncher. I don't beleive Silva has it in him to be patient in this fight which will play right in to Chucks hands as his counter punching is still top in MMA. Granted anything can happen and with two guys swinging gloves like they will a knockout is likely but the obvious smart money is in your pocket or on Liddell.

As hard as I try there is just not a case to be made for Silva. Of course the "square' fan will say that he beat Quinton "Rampage" Jackson twice but just because Fighter A beat B and B beat C it doesn't mean that A will beat C. Silva has been absolutely dominated in his last two fights and I really believe that him being off the juice is affecting him greatly.

I have looked and looked but I can just not find a reason to back Silva so please let me know what is making you guys just besides the generic answer of him being "The Better Fighter."

Good luck to all though and I look forward to sharing intelligent MMA dialogues with everyone of you.

Dsethi,

2 roid heads meet in the middle of the cage and start throwing pucnches and kicks, First good connect is winner. Lidell beats non strikers, this guy a striker. UFC is minor leauges, Silva beat Rampage twice, Rampage KO Lidell. This is checkers not chess.

The comment of A vs B vs C was not directed at you so please don't think I am trying to bash you as I jsut read this post after I posted mine.

Agreed that Liddell has looked awful but anyone who saw Silvas last two fights know he looked much worse against a shot Mirko Filipovic and a 185 lbs. Dan Henderson.

Liddell will do fine against a striker like Silva as Silva will push the pace which fits right in to Liddell's gameplan. Silva also fights out of the clinch a ton which not even Randy Couture was able to do with Liddell. Also keep in mind Silva lost his kicks and knees to a downed opponent like he had in Pride which was his bread and butter along with the clinch.

Only way I see Silva winning this fight is in the clinch and I just can't see him getting Liddell in that position.
