I got this from ships-cat:
NORAD, the US early warning radar system, has detected an unregistered missile launch in the Pacific. The missile is traveling at approximately mach 1.5, and (at time of writing) has just passed over Tokyo in Japan.
The track seemed to begin in the South Pacific near to New Zealand , at 00:00 (25th December) local time, and did not appear to originate from any known launch site. There is speculation that a ballistic nuclear submarine may have been involved.
The missile is reported as being too large for a conventional cruise missile, yet at the same time too slow (and low) for a conventional ballistic missile.
NORAD have extrapolated the missile track, and it is due to enter Eastern Russian airspace, heading on a Northern / North-Eastern track, within minutes. If it continues on it's track, it will enter US Siberian airpsace within an hour.
No nations have admitted involvement with the launch. Both Vladivostock (Russian) and Shandong (Chinese) air defence networks are reported to be scrambling interceptors.
A bulletin has been posted on the NORAD website, which has been opened to the public.
the NORAD url is http://www.noradsanta.org/en/home.htm
Neither the UK or USA governments have commented yet. <!--IBF.ATTACHMENT_369485-->
