I say swith the game to NBC, Everyone should be able to see This

Massachusetts Senator John Kerry has appealed to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell to take action to ensure that all Patriots fans in New England, and across the country, will have the chance to view the team's season finale against the Giants.
The game is scheduled to be broadcast on NFL Network. WCVB in Boston (Channel 5) will also carry the game, but that still means parts of New England won't be able to see it.
“In just five days, the Patriots will try to become the first team since Don Shula’s legendary ‘72 Dolphins to finish the regular season undefeated, but huge numbers of Pats fans today wouldn’t be able to see the game. Unless immediate action is taken, thousands of fans outside the Boston area will not even have access to the broadcast,” Kerry said in a press release.
“If this isn’t fixed in a hurry, it speaks volumes about how some big interests see the fans. I hope the NFL sees the error of its ways and allows every ‘twelfth man’ to see this unprecedented event.”
Full text of Kerry's letter can be found by clicking the link below.

December 24, 2007 Mr. Roger Goodell
Commissioner
National Football League
280 Park Avenue
New York, NY 10017

Dear Commissioner Goodell,
As a Bostonian, I couldn't be more pleased that in just five days, the New England Patriots will attempt to become the first NFL team in 35 years to finish the regular season with an undefeated record. But as someone who represents all of Massachusetts and not just those in the Boston media market, I remain deeply troubled that today as many as 250,000 Massachusetts households, and millions of Patriots fans nationwide, may be denied access to this historic sporting event.
Despite an unwillingness by both sides to strike a compromise that best meets the interest of the fans, there remain several options for making this game widely available. One option is found in what is referred to as the NFL's "flex schedule", which permits the League to switch the currently scheduled Sunday night NBC game for a game of broader public appeal. Electing to air the game on NBC would ensure that every television in America has access to such a historic game. Throughout the season, the NFL has made this decision with respect to other games of high importance and broad national interest.
For a game of this significance to be used as a bargaining chip or point of leverage between corporations locked in a dispute would say a great deal about the esteem in which America's football fans are held by the big interests. Under the unfortunate circumstance that this matter remains unresolved, leaving 60 percent of households across the country - including thousands in Massachusetts - without access to Saturday's game, I will ask the Senate Commerce Committee to hold hearings on how the emergence of premium sports channels are impacting the consumer, and I will consider what legislative measures may be necessary to ensure that consumers are more than bystanders in this process.
I hope very much to see a satisfactory solution achieved. I've offered - and my offer stands - to convene a meeting of all parties with the goal of reaching an 11th hour solution. I hope it is not too late to get something done for fans everywhere. Thank you for consideration of this request.
Sincerely,
John F. Kerry
United States Senate

glad he has got the war all figured out and a way to lower gas prices.....

does he think the NFL knew when they announced their tv schedule that NWE would be undefeated? in most years this game would have meant nothing a s these teams would have already had their playoff spot locked up...would he be arguing if we were going to be watching 2 teams play 3rd stringers?

f' him and f' the cable companies...i think they are the real ones holding this up....many cable companies across the nation were able to add this channel without increasing cost to consumer but time warner and comcast refuse...i'll find the article i just read it this morning i think

`Available to the masses'

The Panthers president also sits on the NFL committee that oversees the network. So far, Richardson said, 240 cable companies across the U.S. have added the NFL Network without raising customer rates.

Based on that, he said, there's no reason to add it to a sports tier or -- as Time Warner proposed this fall -- make games pay-per-view.

"We want our games available to the masses," Richardson said. "We don't want to be boxing."

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones agreed. Jones, the chairman of the network committee, told the Observer that 85 percent of his team's fans in Texas won't be able to watch tonight's game. With the Cowboys on the NFL Network twice this year, the team has encouraged fans to change cable companies or switch to satellite systems to send Time Warner a message.

"Ultimately the pressure has to come from the consumer," Jones said. "This is the time to build the tension."

Back in Charlotte, despite being on opposite sides, Richardson and Munley praised the partnership between the Panthers and Time Warner.

The cable company has advertising signs inside Bank of America Stadium and has sponsored charity and other events with the Panthers, Munley said. Team mascot Sir Purr even visited the Arrowood Road office last month for a company celebration, he said.

Even with no resolution on the horizon, the NFL Network hasn't affected those ties, Munley said. "It hasn't to date," he said, "and we're pleased with that."

Richardson agreed, saying, "Our personal relationship with the local office is good."

Still, with both sides refusing to budge on the NFL Network, Munley said neither the cable companies nor the NFL look good in the dispute.

"When people aren't happy, they put blame everywhere," he said. "It's harmful t

Dear Senator Kerry:

Thank you for your thinly-veiled threat. Although you may not be aware of this concept, we actually intend to honor our commitment we made as a party to an existing contract. I realize that we could have added some language in the agreement which would allow us to weasel our way out of it and sabotage a our new and fledgling NFL Network, but we decided that integrity actually means something. No doubt, you have expressed equal concern for your constituent's access to CSPAN where they can observe that your seat in the Senate is vacant 90% of the time while you fly around the country gaining access to private suites at games such as these.

Best of luck in further personifying a limousine liberal.

Sincerely,

I thought you were

talking about Horse racing? You mentioned Goodell? History in the making, I guess this game is more important then National Health Care? Screw Kerry and this BS! Honestly now who here cares about anything but the Final Score?

This is a Game others here have already said is has no meaning for the Giants b/c they are in the playoffs and all that matters is winning the Super Bowl? That is the bottom line as one announcer has already said........You can go 17-0 and not win the SuperBowl and you're forgotten about. I personnally don't look at it the same way..........

This is the Super Bowl for New England, they will be always be remembered just as the Miami Dolphins are now as will Tom Brady b/c he was on 60 minutes talking about his life not being alll about this?

Did you ever hear a millionare talk any other way? Be real folks this is the Game of yours and mine lifetime.......... Really who cares? I wonder if "Kerry" himself does care? If he did he would donate his tickets to anyone and watch the game on TV? But his real agenda is to take advantage for his betterment! He'll be at this game and interviewed early but not shown leaving early........ It's too late to wake up America.......

I'm surprised our Mods didn't move this thread to the Political area? If anyone feels this Game is more important then anything else that is happening in this messed up Country then this is why this Country is as messed up as it is. Can you say Introverted

Brilliant post, Wynn! But this was not a threat, thinly veiled or otherwise...

...but more like a promise. I didn't vote for this liberal limousine loon but this is the first thing he's ever done that I agree with. I doubt it will make any difference but I do give him credit for trying.

If they wouldn't show Dallas/Green Bay, they won't show this one either. Thank Jerry Jones - the creator of the NFL Network.

If only we could get Gulliani and Hillary to write letters complaining about the Giants fans not being able to see the game, we would have some serious leverage.

Both you guys are delusional. They have broken ratings records across the country. The Pats are thee story in the NFL.The NFL as a whole would suck this year without the Pats.
As far as John Fraud Kerry goes. This guy has been a US Senator for about 25 years and has not been the author of one piece of major legistlation in this time. This is just another granstanding play he is famous for in his golddigging personal and professional life.Like Roger Clemens not suing steroid claims.Kerry won't suit for the swiftboat claims because they are accurate. There isn't a bigger empty suit in the world than "liveshot" Kerry.

As I see it, Kerry is threatening the NFL by attempting to legislate the manner in which they conduct their business with their primary revenue source - television network and cable companies. Anytime congress attempts to intervene in the affairs of a professional sport, bad things inevitably happen.

Wynn,
I agree with you...in my desire to sound glib, I actually mispook...I should have said it's not only a threat, but also a promise. I still do agree with the junior senator from liberal looneydom, and the things that will inevitably happen from any congressional intervention will be bad for the NFL but maybe not so bad for the fans.
