New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady is lifted in the air by his teammates Logan Mankins (70) and Russ Hochstein, left, after Brady threw a 65-yard touchdown to Randy Moss in the third quarter of an NFL football game against the New York Giants at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J., on Saturday, Dec. 29, 2007. Brady broke the single-season record with his 50th touchdown pass and Moss broke the single season-record with his 23rd touchdown reception on the play.

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J.
The numbers are in and the preliminary ratings indicate the 29 December 2007 game between the Patriots and Giants was the most watched broadcast in U.S. television history.

Don't you think that being 15-0 had a little something to do with it?

obviously...but there were some posters (ie: lapdance) that said nobody was gonna watch & the NFL Network simulcast meant nothing.

Natrually, and a great stroke of good luck for the NFL that the game turned out to be a real battle.

Plus it was carried on 2 out of 4 of the major networks in most markets

It shows you how smart the marketers of the NFL are.The hype and controversy builds about a virtually unknown network. Then at the last minute they flood the broadcast waves with it.
Kind of like the cabbage patch doll marketing.

How many new subscribers to the network do you think they got today. Not individuals, but cable companies?

that also helps....

but the Ravens/Patriots game was the previous highest rated primetime event in history....carried only on one network.

Not so sure about your last comment. I believe some cable companies are not carrying it due to excessive cost - blame the NFL on that one.

Yea, seems like the Patriots brought out the best in Eli. So he'll probably flop next week if he maintains his consistent variability.

Hard not to be the most watched when your on 3 channels. Shit if you put the Golden Girls on 2 major networks people would have to watch.

Better question would be "How many are ready to drop their cable and get a dish?"

The New England Patriots’ successful closure of the perfect 16-0 season was watched by more than 25 million people between 8pm and 11pm and that’s just via the broadcast simulcast on NBC and CBS — we haven’t seen how many watched on the NFL Network yet. The game combined for 25.37 million viewers and an 8.5/25 (rating/share) in the 18-49 demographic. More people watched the game on CBS than NBC, though it was fairly even.
