As evidenced the last few weeks , with Stecker and Thomas ( it doesnt really matter who fills in for Bush ) The results are the same if not better.
The #2 pick in the 2006 Draft has now had 28 games under his Belt as Pro. Guess how many 100 Yd rushing games he's had ? I can count them on one hand , actually on one thumb - cause its only one !!! His 3.7 yd average is pathetic and although he catches a lot of balls out of the back field , he doesnt do much with the opportunity ( 7.2 yds a catch over his career ) Heres a break down of his rushing and recieving totals over his 28 games ... You tell me if hes not overated.
Rushing / Recieving ( total # of games)
Under Zero Yds 1-0
1 -10 Yds 1-2
11-20 yds 5-6
21-30 yds 4-5
31-40 yds 5-2
41-50 yds 2-5
51-60 yds 3-3
61-70 yds 4-3
71-80 yds 1-0
81-90 yds 0-0
91-99 yds 1-0
100+ yds 1-2
Notice the bulk of numbers in the 40 and below range , 16 games under 40 yds rushing ...15 under 40 recieving ... More than half his career putting up laughable numbers at best. And we move the 70+ range ... Only 3 games over 70 yds rushing , and 2 over 70 yds recieving out of 28. How can anybody call him a dynamic back ?? He's a Bum !!! Pierre Thomas , an undrafted Rookie making his first NFL start against a hungry and determined Bears team ( who didnt rest any starters ) Had 100 + recieving and Rushing in the same game !!! , Took Bush 28 to do that ...
Aaron Stecker a career back up and journey man managed to fill in for Reggie Bush in weeks 14 and 15 ( both wins ) and run for 195 yds on the ground during those 2 games. Bush had only had 147 yds rushing during the Saints 0-4 start that pretty much cemented their exit from the playoffs this year early. I have watched every game the Saints played this year with great expectations for the 2nd year player , but nothing has come of it ... His reluctancy to run North and South and his dependency of trying to run outside have made much of his runs very predictable. Then usually what happens after the D shuts out Reggie and the Saints fall behind , he is reduced to bail out 3rd and long screen passes that rarely result in moving the chains.
People tell me , the Saints line sux, thats why Reggie hasnt evolved to where he should be. However explain the success of Stecker and Thomas behind the same line ... They overacheived while the #2 overall pick has underachieved.
Granted he has scored 20 touchdowns in those 28 games which is good. However , of those 20 touchdowns ... they were only scored in 9 total games which he played , meaning the other 19 games of his career , he failed to reach the endzone ( more then 2/3 ) , within a 16 game season , that amounts to only scoring in 5 games. ( which aint too good ) He scored in 4 games of 13 this year , and 5 of 16 in his first year.
Tomilson scored in 12/16 games , 3rd bench Fill-in Earnest Graham scored in six of his final seven games , Rookie Adrian Peterson scored in 8/14. Fred Taylor at age 31 scored in 11/16 games .. Now Im not comparing Bush to LT , thats not fair. But I am showing a variety of backs who score in 60 % of their teams games , opposed to 32 % like Bush does. He is very overated and until he starts carrying the team on his back and being the leader he should be ... He will always be an underacheiver to me.
