lol. Seriously, there's a hockey rink in nearly every city, small town in Canada. We grow up playing the game, put our kids in the game, they put their kids in the game, etc. For us, junior hockey is just as important as the pros, to some moreso. We take a lot of pride in our hockey. Btw,not only did we win the World Jr's today (under 20), we also won a Jr under 17 title, here in Ontario. We are on a great roll, truly amazing--7 STRAIGHT visits to the World Jr finals, can you imagine that?
..anyway......
Sydney WTA
N Petrova (RUS) :think2: -136 over S Bammer (AUT)-- 1.36u to win 1u.....a battle of top 20 veterans in what you should be a good one. Nadia changed plans after her debacle first round exist to Garbin:WTF: last week at Auckland. She decided she needed more matches in before The AO. Given this, motivation must be high--get that bad loss out of her system. 2007 was a down yr for Petrova finally existing the top 10 after a two yr stay (aided by persistent nagging injuries). She'a an accomplished hardcourt player with a powerful serve, surprising soft hands at the net (for a big girl) and a massive top spin forehand. She enters '08 healthy. She has played Bammer 3 times over 3 years ON THREE DIFFERENT surfaces, winning all matches--note that two of those were in '07, which was a Sybille breakout yr........Bammer is a late bloomer that has seen her ranking rise every yr since 2000, amazing. She finished 2007 inside the top 20. I think she'l be hard pressed to stay there. She's a lefty with a powerful game, a fitness nut. She ended 2007 on a poor run, 2-4. Starts off '08 with a first rd loss to N Li last week--infact in her last 5 tournaments she has failed to get past the first round in 3 of them. Vs top 15 players dated back to '07 she is 2-8......neither player wants to start off 0-2 heading to Melbourne Park, so this should be a good one.
let go big girl.......
