WFAN bombshell this morning
<HR style="COLOR: #d1d1e1" SIZE=1><!-- / icon and title --><!-- message -->So, boomer and carton were interviewing Kerry Collins by phone, and I have no idea why, but when asked about the Colts/Titans game, Collins admitted that there was signalling between the Colts bench and the Titans bench, i.e., that the Colts would not use their timeouts to prolong the game, down 6, at the end of the game.

After the phone call, Boomer was trying to downplay it like Collins didn't say anything that people didn't already know, which was that Coach Dungy didn't need to win the game, he was just trying to get off the field, he doesn't owe any other team (i.e., the Browns) anything, and, this kind of thing happens in the game but nobody talks aloud about it. But Carton was like, "dude, Collins is going to be in some pretty hot water for saying something like that." Boomer denied it, but Carton harped on it for a while saying:

1. Why would Collins say something that obviously has implications greater than just the game.

2. If it happenened like Kerry Collins said it happened, then what does that mean about these games at the end of the season?

3. Kerry Collins is going to be in some amount of trouble with his team for going on WFAN and, even if true, airing stuff that should never be aired.

4. How should Browns fans feel now, knowing that Coach Dungy did not even give his team a chance to comeback at the end.

5. The Colts would have lost the game, most likely, anyway, even if they did try their best with the people they had in the game, but still....

Browns fans should feel ashamed that their team lost to a crappy Bengals team. Dungy owes nothing to Cle.

I also heard that the NFL advised opposing teams to lose on purpose to N.E.

But he owes the NFL to put an honest effort for a competitive game.

The Colts had more reason to put in a honest effort than the Giants did.Giants and Pats were actually playing for nothing.

Dungy played his starters. He is under no obligation to play them the entire game. What exactly were the Colts playing for?

Dungy owes it to his players and organization to do whats best for his team, not the NFL. If the NFL doesn't approve then fine him and the Colts. Since that didn't happen I'm going to assume the NFL didn't have a problem with it.

We both know if this was anybody else other than Indy you wouldn't have even brought this up.

Maybe I am missing something here Pat. If it was the end of the game and Dungy had no intent of using his timeouts, someone from the Indy bench indicated to the Titans bench to kneel on the ball and run the clock out?

Chet Coppick (I think that was the guys name) also had audio of Neil Odonnell talking to a mob guy prior to the 1996 Superbowl, telling him how the Steeelers wouldnt cover.......He plade it on Sportschannel America. To this day that story was swept under the rug. Odonnell then went out and gift wrapped two interceptions to assure the Dallas cover.

Those were two of the worst int's I have ever seen. I remember thinking there's no way he wasn't throwing those balls to the Dallas defenders.

Was it the same mob guy I saw the black ref talking to in the Georgia game?

That is almost as bad as the refs handing the Puketriots the game against Baltimore to assure their undefeated season.

Well I guess Odonnell screwed up them, cuz Pitt still ended up covering SuperBowl XXX.

I didn't see the Hawaii game,. What happened with the ref?

I think he actually a sideline official but it's kind of a running joke. It seemed the guy was involved in every call that went against Hawaii and some people were saying he was paid off.

i was front and center for colts game vs tenn and their is no doubt there was an agreement to let the game end without dungy using his last time out... they both waved during the tv timeout as if to say good game and go ahead and run the clock out... it was more a waving of the white flag than fixing a game... tenn was in fg range and they could have run the ball for a 1st down if needed... no fixing just dungy saying you win good game lets go home... dont think it was done for harm just out of courtesy.. tenn would have hit the fg and sorgi wasnt going 80 yards in 30 seconds anyway

Now there's some tough medicine. You mean being pissed and disappointed ain't enough, I need to feel ashamed, too?

An agreement to let the game end without a timeout is hardly a fix, not even close.
