Oversight Committee 'Invitation'

The following was released by the House Oversight Committee, chaired by California's Henry A. Waxman:

WASHINGTON, DC -- The House Oversight Committee announced today it will hold a hearing on Wednesday, January 16, 2008, to obtain additional information about the Report to the Commissioner of Baseball of an Independent Investigation into the Illegal Use of Steroids and Other Performance Enhancing Substances by Players in Major League Baseball, known as the "Mitchell Report."

Witnesses will include:

• Mr. Brian McNamee
• Mr. Kirk Radomski
• Mr. Andy Pettitte
• Mr. Chuck Knoblauch
• Mr. Roger Clemens

Where: 2154 Rayburn House Office Building

When: 10 a.m. on Wednesday, January 16, 2008

<!-- end sidebar table --> Also invited to appear before the House Oversight Committee were former New York Mets clubhouse attendant Kirk Radomski, whose allegations were a central part of last month's Mitchell report on doping in baseball. Former All-Star second baseman Chuck Knoblauch also was asked to speak to the panel.
A day earlier, the committee is to hear testimony from baseball commissioner Bud Selig, union leader Donald Fehr and former Senate majority leader George Mitchell.
McNamee told Mitchell he had injected Clemens with steroids and human growth hormone during the 1998, 2000 and 2001 seasons. Clemens, in an interview to be broadcast by CBS's "60 Minutes" on Sunday, said McNamee injected him with vitamins and painkillers but not performance-enhancing drugs.
Pettitte admitted McNamee injected him with HGH twice while the pitcher was recovering from an injury.
The panel also convened a March 2005 hearing, when Mark McGwire refused to say whether he had used performance-enhancing drugs. Sammy Sosa said he had never knowingly used illegal performance-enhancing drugs. Rafael Palmeiro denied using drugs but tested positive later that year for a steroid.

How great is it that the guy "naming names" on these players is "Brian McNamee."

He's already weaseling out of it.

His agent just said that because of "scheduling conflicts" he might not be able to make it. I think every Wed is when he gets his steroid shot administered.

I was really hoping they would invite Schilling again...as well as Bonds.

Very curious to see if Schill would say his previous opinions on his blog/weei in front of Rocket/Bonds/Congress.

Or he would suddenly clam up, not voice any opinion, & point the finger at Canseco instead.

They should. If they're bringing in Roger, might as well go all the way.

canseco on the radio yesterday swearing up and down clemens never did anything.

The one thing that REALLY bothered me about this appearance...how Canseco kept on referring to Clemens as a 'close friend'...but kept on saying how he & A-Rod never got along, doesn't like him personally, never saw him do steroids, but knew someone who knew he did.

Leaves the argument open to bias.

Sure gets interesting here..if Roger goes the limit, and is proven innocent..the Mitchell Report could prove to be fraudulant..If one fact is proven to be not truthful, the whole report falls under that grey area..Roger seems quite ambivalent regarding his innocence..

McNamee had no reason to create lies about injecting players; Clemens, on the other hand, has a trophy case full of reasons to cover his pin cushion of an ass. It should be fun to watch him go down with all of his bogus Cy Youngs...

Clemens Will Go And Take The 5th

that would be great. Then Congress can give him immunity against any crime he is invoking 'the 5th' to protect himself from and then have him answer the questions again, he'll be painted right into the proverbial corner.
