I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw him going for 2 after the penalty. The odds of making it are probably 5-10 percent. Over 10 minutes left in the game, and he in effect is saying that his team has virtually no chance to score any more.

:ohno:

Boy, would I love to meet this guy at the poker table.

Del Rio was the bigger clown in the game and I don't think it was close... the dude with an 18 pt lead calls an ALL OUT BLITZ on 4d 12 then gets the ball back with all the momentum going against him, calls 3 passing plays, loses about 10 yards, has to punt it back, gives up another TD, then comes out and throws it 3 more times... c'mon now Del Rio, you're a RUNNING TEAM. And this clown is gonna have to take on Belicheat? Please...

I dont understand your post. The example you made does not provide support that tomlin blew the game. Obviously, as I am sure you realize, if he would have kicked the extra point, the steelers STILL would have lost.

I actually loved that call. He forced Ben to throw a pass short of the 1st down, and counted on his corner to make a tackle. Unfortunately, the guy couldn't finish the tackle, and he broke it for a TD.

If he takes him down, the Jags get the ball back. A player's gotta make a play.

As for the rest of the 2nd half, yeah, that wasn't pretty.

Good point...you make a call and expect your players to make the play...

Wow, somebody's sticking up for Del Rio? I HATED the call. It was a perfect read by Ben to find Holmes on the quick slant, but you can't play cover 0 when you've got 12 yards of cushion... Yeah, send 5, send 6... but don't send 8 damn guys.

I just flat out hate going for two in those situations with greater than 7minutes left in the 4th quarter. Always seems to come back to bit the team in the ass.......Coaches use that chart instead of common sense.....after the penalty it shouldve been a no brainer.

Obviously, as I'm sure you DON'T realize, he would not have lost the game. Because he missed the conversion, he had to go for two when Pittsburgh subsequently scored later. Which they also missed. If he kicks both extra points they go to OT.

Del Rio having Garrard passing the ball with an 18 point lead was just retarded......It let Pittsburgh back in the game. MJD and Taylor are your studs on offense feed em the rock run clock.

To explain this.....Pitt was moving the ball on JAx alll game.....they scored with 10 minutes left. They shouldve kicked the XP.

Now, had this game been a defensive struggle, and points were at a premium, and your offense wasnt moving the ball well at all, then ya possibly go for 2 to get it to a FG. Common sense. Screw that chart. I also love when coaches say "well the chart said to go for two there" like Tomlin did in his presser after the game. Just makes you sound like a dumbshit.

I think Bill Belichik is the only one who ca nthink outside the box in this league,

I disagree on the call for the blitz. I agree with you that the players have to make the play but when a team is up 18 points you shouldn't be leaving your corners as the only guy to defend a pass like that. Why? In case the guy doesn't make the play. If you don't blitz you have another defender to help him out.

The overall principle here is to have more than one point of failure to protect your lead.

He fucked up twice big time in yesterdays game. Down 28-23, after the penalty, you have to kick the extra point to get it to 28-24. There was still 10 minutes left and both teams were scoring again in this game. What are the odds of passing it 12 yards to get the 2-pointer?

If he gets the 1 point, he can kick after the next TD and they lead 31-28 instead of going for 2, missing and only being up 1.

Then, up 29-28, what was that 3rd down play with Roethlisberger giving himself up on a QB keeper when they needed 5 yards?!?! You got to try and make the first down, especially with Jax needing only a FG to win. Steelers still had all 3 timeouts and 2 minute warning. No reason not to throw for that 1st down

Real good point 5*.......the fact they were only up by 2 and not 3 was the exact reason they shouldve made sure once they got the ball that they either got that 1st down on 2nd or 3rd down. Instead, they were content with running the ball to have Jax burn their TO's. Huge mistake...I blame Bruce Arians as well for that because he isnt a rookie coach.

The rookie punter also stunk last night to as he out kicked his coverage all night.......the return men for Jax were fielding every punt without a guy within 10 yards of them all night.

The Steelers special teams sucked bad last night with crappy kickoffs those left Jax quite a few better starting spot. This will all change when Heinz Field will be converted to field turf from never-ending poor conditions of sod turf in Pittsburgh climate. Big Ben and Ariens suck ass in the first half big time and they know it. The playcalling was abysmal to be in predictable situations without injured Willie Parker. I wouldn't be surprised that their will be few position coaching change in this off-season. :icon_conf
